This lovely, 1991 adaptation of Elizabeth Von Arnim's novel has a superb cast and a tone so mellow you can feel your pulse get slower. Josie Lawrence and Miranda Richardson play a pair of unhappily married women who rent an Italian villa for a month, sharing the rent with a crusty Englishwoman (Joan Plowright) and a lonely aristocrat (Polly Walker). Sun, rest, sinking into the green grass for long naps--they all have a soulful effect on the quartet, and then on the men in their lives who make a surprise visit. Mike Newell (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this movie!
What I'd like to know is WHY ISN'T IT ON DVD YET?I see all kinds of stupid movies, old movies, boring movies coming out all the time. Why does it take so long for the good ones to come out?I don't get it.If it ever does come out on DVD I would highly recommend that you watch it--you will not be disappointed!I rank it up there with my other favorite movies like A&E's Pride & Prejudice, Persuasion, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Sound of Music, First Churchills, Meet me in St. Louis, Anne of Green Gables, well, you get the picture. Those are all different categories than Enchanted April, but it is one of the greats in my opinion!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, life-affirming movie!
I can't surpass all the past reviewers in praising this film.Just see it - a wonderful and beautiful movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Help demand DVD release NOW
In a review below, Tim Brain addresses an open letter to the DVD Release Coordinator at Paramount Studios. What a great idea. If everyone reading this would write a letter to Paramount and request the release of this superb film on DVD maybe we could get somewhere or at least an answer as to why it is STILL not available. Can we all join forces to help get this movie out.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME MOVIE
I agree with every one else ... RAD ROCKS and there are probably about 100,000 super suky dvd's out there ... come dvd converter studios ... what's up !!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars RAD
I bought the VHS RAD not too long ago and I had to pay a little more then I wanted but it was well worth it for my childhood favorite movie. I would watch that movie over and over again with my friends when I was a kid. They need to put it out on DVD, every month I look for it to be out on DVD and every month I am disappointed. I don't think they would have a problem selling it on DVD because everyone remebers the bike dancing scene. The movie is a classic!!! The VHS is great but I want a DVD, I am sure the VHS could be copy to CD but that would not do it justice it deserves to be re-released and digitaly enhanced and such by the studio. Look at all the other crap release on DVD. It is just is not fair to let a classic movie like RAD fade away.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME, WONDERFUL, GREAT STUNTS
I have been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD for years now.You can't even buy it on VHS unless someone is putting it up for auction on E-bay.The production company should hurry up and put this compelling movie on DVD and get it over with.Quite sure I am not the only one who wants to purchase. This is a wonderful movie for kids as well as adults of any age.My son and brother loves this movie, especially the bike stunts. This is truly a movie to have in your personal library.Hope the production company decides to put on DVD very soon. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Rare Opportunity
I had the opportunity to tape this wonderful movie when it showed on the Disney channel in the mid to late 80's.I honestly watched it so many times by myself and with recruited fans that I wore out the tape.I remember going as a young kid to watch this movie in a small theater in my hometown and it stayed there for many weeks because of the its growing popularity. This is one of those rare occasions when an old film outdoes many new releases even with it's primitive technology.Millions of kids and adults alike will love this movie. Disney get on the ball and release Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scared silly at the time!
I was a pretty young tyke when Disney ran this movie, and it REALLY made an impression on me (and most of my age cohort, as one of the previous reviews eludes to). As my wife will attest to, I have been singing the "Scare-croooow... Scare-crooow.." theme since she met me 25 years ago! She has yet to see this, so hopefully Disney will do the math and figure out that these golden oldies will sell like hotcakes to US golden oldies. I'm certainly going to pick this one up when it finally arrives!

5-0 out of 5 stars DISNEY --- PLLLLLLEASE RELEASE THIS ON DVD!!!!
I watched The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh on the Wonderful World of Disney, nee, The Wonderful World of Color, every time it came on.It was one of the greatest films I have ever seen and left a deep impression on me as a child of the 60's.I sure wish Disney would release this on DVD.I'd buy it in a second!Great adventure, great suspense, great action, and most fascinating film. ... I bought this movie, because a family member had seen it years ago and liked it.I watched it once and it was very funny there were several sexual referances in the movie coming from Ann-Margret but you can tell that by the cover.Funny as is was, at timesyou felt like you were watching the same things over and over again.I wouldn't watch it with young children.

Hes dressed in black from boots to hat and and hes twirling double iron . His name is "Cactus Jack" slater and hes THE VILLAIN . A raucous western spoof that proves you cant judge a cowboy by the color of his hat . High Quality Transfer . Recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars You would enjoy this movie if. . .
If you like good clean humor, you will love this movie. It is so funny and also entertaining. It's about a cowboy and his horse, and the horse almost talks. It's also about a seven shot, six-shooter (can you believe it). It comes in handy at just the right time. It's also about a naive cowboy, who does dumb things and doesn't even know they're dumb. So, for an entertaining time, purchase this dvd. It's well worth the money, and the time spent watching it. I'm sure you'll love it as much as we did. Happpy watching!!!!!!!! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

This classic 1964 television special featuring Rudolph and his misfit buddies set the standard for stop-motion animation for an entire generation before Tim Burton darkly reinvented it in the early 1990s. Burl Ives narrates as Sam the Snowman, telling and singing the story of a rejected reindeer who overcomes prejudice and saves Christmas one particularly blustery year. Along the way, he meets an abundance of unforgettable characters: his dentallyobsessed elf pal Hermey; the affable miner Yukon Cornelius and his motley crew of puppies; the scary/adorable Abominable Snow Monster; a legion of abandoned, but still chatty, toys; and a rather grouchy Santa. In addition to the title song that inspired it, this 53-minute tape is crammed with catchy tunes such as"Silver and Gold" and "Holly Jolly Christmas." Those who grew up looking forward to watching Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Glorious, Wondrous, theGreatest Rudolph of Them All!
Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer is indeed the most marvelous Christmas film ever! It is one of many superb animated films written by a great man named Romeo Muller. Rudolph is doubtless his best-loved work. I remember watching the film as a child, delighted and enraptured by the story that it told. Do you remember? Sam the Snowman as narrator (voiced and sung in the performance of a lifetime by Burl Ives); Rudolph the misfit and rejected reindeer; Rudolph's friend, Hermy the Elf, also a misfit because he doesn't like to make toys but wants to be a dentist; Yukon Cornelius, the prospector who befriends them both; the Abominable Snowmonster of the North (whom Yukon, in prospector slang, invariably calls a "bumble"); the Island of Misfit Toys, and its winged lion ruler, King Moonracer; and many other characters and story threads. The presentation, interweaving, and resolution of all of these elements is positively Shakespearean in deftness, wit, poetic beauty and brevity of expression, depth, pathos, joy, moral instruction, and the sense that all ends as indeed it should. Grounded in a deep and sparkling love of all creation, these qualities characterize all of Romeo Muller's films. If you will see it devotedly--indeed, if you will see any and all of Romeo's films--you will become a finer, more compassionate, and a more truly loving human being.

5-0 out of 5 stars Immortal Christmas Classic FeaturingThe Most Famous Reindeer Of All
A "true treasure", is really the only way to describe this legendary Christmas television special that originally premiered in 1964. Arthur Rankin's totally captivating stop motion animation was a bench mark for everything that has come since and even with all of our modern computer technology nothing could come close to the beauty of the creations here. The story of that most famous of reindeers, the one and only Rudolph who's initial drawback of having a shiny nose eventually becomes his chief asset, is beautifully told in a music filled special narrated by Burl Ives in a perfect piece of casting as Sam the snowman. This special has quite rightly become a Christmas instituation every year since its initial release and appeals equally to both children and adults with its timeless message of tolerance and acceptance of all who are different. It has happily now been given a deserving release onto DVD back in its original form complete with deleted songs and a superb restoration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than "Charlotte's Web" by a long shot!
Trust me, "Babe", although written and filmed later, was much better than the other major pig movie, "Charlotte's Web". What are the highlights? How do they dominate those of the 1973 so-called "timeless classic"? Allow me to explain.
5-0 out of 5 stars A new Fairytale!
I simply adore this movie. It is a modern fairytale. Watching it for the 1st time was like being immersed in a magical land..
4-0 out of 5 stars A Tasteful, Nice Movie You'll Like and Your Child Will Learn From
I saw Babe figuring it would be cute, not knowing much else about it.It is a very nice movie, not insulting but also--interestingly--not depressing, in its sadder parts (Maa the Sheep namely). The border collies are so much like my own that I was immediately entranced.(They live, so don't fear being depressed, dog lovers!)The movie is well filmed and very tasteful, old fashioned but somehow it never in any way beats you over the head.Babe is a cute pig and a symbol of ironic good luck if there ever was one.Without gloom, the movie bluntly addresses the fact that he might just as easily have wound up on a human plate. The plot seems a bit simple and does leave a huge opening for a sequel, in that we don't see Babe grow older or have a major life change.James Cromwell is always a fine actor and his near-silent Farmer Hoggett neither oozes compassion nor meanness.A really nice touch is the subplot about the male border collie's past, how he lost most of his hearing. We also get to see a busload of baby border collies frolic and question Babe.It took me back to two litters of Labs I raised in my twenties. The movie may make you cry but it never lingers on its sadder themes and ends up leaving a satisfying feeling...though it seems rather short. The ending is obvious but only suffers from an abrupt "The End."I haven't seen the sequel but probably will, especially if it has the collies and Cromwell in it!You want to know what became of the characters.Don't be surprised if you give up pork after this movie.Whoever devised the tale seems to drive home the point that pigs are far too intelligent and feeling to be food.Personally, I can't eat pork, and this movie reminds me of why! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Movie With A Heart
I Am Sam is superb to the core.Excellent performances across the board, and an emotionally involving story.Sean Penn is believable as someone who is mentally challenged. This is a veritable tour de force for him.But not to be upstaged is Dakota Fanning, who plays opposite of Penn and is named Lucy Diamond after the hit Beatles song.Sean Penn's character has to fight for custody of Lucy, and luckily he retains the services of a good lawyer, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, for free. She helps him as best she can and so do some mentally challenged friends and a caring neighbor. All in all, a very beautiful movie with plenty of heart and goodness. One of my favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do we get balloons?
I did cry during this film. There, I got it out there in the open so that it wouldn't hold me back as I talked about how great of a cinematic journey I Am Sam was.I remember when this film was released and how disgusted I was to hear that Sean Penn was taking the role of a mentally challenged individual because I am under the utter beliefs that if you want realism in your film, just hire someone who faces it daily.I didn't see the point of getting Sean Penn to over dramatize it.I am here to say that I was wrong. For once, I think Sean Penn was the perfect choice for this film.Yet, it wasn't just Penn that made this film worth more than one viewing.I believe that director Jessie Nelson realized that she had a cliché Hollywood story on her hands, in fact just another retelling of Kramer vs. Kramer (which is referenced throughout the film), and needed to do something to set it apart from the rest. Her answer, Beatles songs, imaginative cinematography, and gathering the best of the best to tackle her main characters. While Michelle Pfeiffer seemed to be an odd fit, the rest fell into place beautifully.Let me say this now, Dakota Fanning will win Oscars (more than one) during her film career.Needless to say, this was a much better film that initially represented.I Am Sam is one of those movies that we assume will be just like every other Hollywood outing, but until you open the box, put the DVD into your player, and experience the music, the visuals, as well as the phenomenal acting; you will never quite understand why I Am Sam carried above the Hollywood standard.
4-0 out of 5 stars A really good choice...
Not to far back I made a statement that I felt Sean Penn's performance in this film made him appear desperate. After watching this film yet again I have to reconsider my approach for it's less desperate and more over-enthusiastic.Who can blame an actor whose well loved and adored by fans as well as the academy for going a little overboard when given the opportunity to chomp on some real Oscar bait. The only problem here is that Sean goes a little too far over the top and it just gets to be too much (ONLY at times...I don't want to leave the impression that the entire film is full of overacting...it's not!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Thanks VH1 for reminding me how good this movie is
This movie was on VH1 "Movies that Rock" which made me think about it for the first time in like 10 years. The good thing about Selena is that it's a musical biopic that is actually about the music. At least 50% of the movie features musical performances, concerts, and recordings instead of spendning most of its time focused on Selena's murder and death. The film highlights her career as an artist, which I think is an important thing to keep at the forefront. Furthermore, whether you like J.Lo or not, I think it's important to recognize that she did a great job portraying this rising Tejano singer. She wasn't even J.Lo yet when the movie was filmed, and I still only knew her as a fly girl from In Living Color.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Classics
This video contains what are perhaps the two best-known and loved TWILIGHT ZONE titles, "Time Enough at Last" and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."The former episode stars Burgess Meredith as a bookish bank teller named Henry Bemis.Scolded by his boss and his wife for being "a reader," Bemis retires to the bank's vault each day during his lunch hour to indulge his passion. One day while he is reading in the vault, a nuclear explosion happens and the earth is turned into a wasteland.Stumbling upon the remains of a public library, Bemis declares that now he has all the time in the world to read - but does he really?Serling's script for "Time Enough at Last" is whimsical though ultimately tragic, with similarities to both "The Obsolete Man" (also with Meredith) and "The Lonely."

4-0 out of 5 stars sweet & hopeful family fantasy
The Amazing Grace and Chuck is a feel good film that we need now in this time of bumbling policies and cynicism. Sure it is far-fetched, but so is Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz, and you don't see very many detractors of those classics.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fantasy about how things might be.....
This movie, in my opinion, is one of the most overlooked and unappreciated movies in film history. Most people have dismissed it as being unrealistic and far fetched.I think that they have missed the point.I don't think this movie was intended to be received as a potentially plausible solution to the menace of the Nuclear threat presented by the Cold War, but rather an idealistic fairy tale about how one, seemingly ordinary boy, could change the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT A KIDS REVIEW
This is one of my favourite "LIVE" recorded movies. I also have selected bits from this show on CD "Gilda Radner: Live From New York". VHS has all of everyones favourite characters from SNL's early days, and time fillers of Father Guido Sarducci, that were thrown in while Gilda and the crew were preparing for the next few scenes. Most of these fillers dont really even make sense. All the rest of the VHS is absolutely hilarious, the songs are catchy, characters still the same as ever in new situations, and Gilda herself is as radiant as she always was. ********This is a must have for any Gilda or SNL fan!********

5-0 out of 5 stars Legacy Of Gilda
Gilda Radner was hands down the funniest woman in history. From her comedic roles on the big screen, to the timeless characters she portrayed on the small screen. In my mind, Gilda will live forever. From the funny, chubby girl from Detroit, to the skinny, outrageous comedic. Not to be overlooked, this video was made at the height of her popularity on Saturday Night Live. All her classic characters are portrayed, from Emily, to Lisa, to Roseanne! Although Gilda's life was cut short, her spirit and laughter will live forever! LA DOLCE GILDA!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gone But Not Forgotten
This video is a loving tribute to Gilda. Why is this video not on DVD.Gilda is gone, but not forgotten, at least not by me. It's time to move Gilda out of the video age and into the digital age, before even DVDs are obsolete.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Characters on a Cutting Board
Three men are up for a major promotion in a car company and the man in charge (Clifton Webb) decides that each are fit for the job. He plans to make his decision based on the men's wives, and each are very different from each other. The problem is that not everyone wants the job. Bill (Cornel Wilde) and Katie (June Allyson) care about each other too much to sacrifice seeing each other often. Sid (Fred MacMurray) and Elizabeth(Lauren Bacall) bicker constantly, but Liz wants her husband to worry about his health rather than the satisfaction of a prestigious job. Jerry (Van Helfin) and Carol (Arlene Dahl) seem to want the job too much, which is obvious by Carol's constant advances toward the boss.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Woman's World
The coolest thing about this movie is the inclusion of mid-fifties Ford concept cars. It's worth it for that alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars WE NEEEED THE DVD !!!!!!
This is an iconic film in so many aspects. We have the stelar cast, the awesome New York City panoramic shots preparing the stage for the moderm business storyline but also showing the best sightseeing side of the Big Apple, the fabulous music score and the clothes, aahhhh the clothes....

4-0 out of 5 stars Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep..what a great combination
I've loved this movie since the first time I saw it. If you like Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep, you won't be dissappointed with this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars heartburn
ive been trying to buy this dvd for ages and from many places but i only found it on amazon.com . film was clear and delivery was ok to .

3-0 out of 5 stars WELL DONE BUT UNINVOLVING
I will always sing the praises of Meryl Streep. This wonderfully gifted actress is capable of taking any role and infusing it with such passion and dedication that she can make a dull movie like HEARTBURN entertaining, just to bask in the glow of her performance.Based on Nora Ephron's novel and her marriage to Carl Bernstein, HEARTBURN doesn't really "do" much of anything.Streep marries philandering Jack Nicholson (in one of his more bland performances), has a couple of kids, and finds out he's cheating on her (duh?).Ephron's script cripples its stars by making Streep a little too whiny and self-pitying and Nicholson a little too dispassionate and predictable. One of the true crimes of this movie is Oscar's neglect to praise the movie's showpiece song COMIN AROUND AGAIN.Carly Simon's song poignantly evokes the loss but hope in any kind of relationship; it's pairing with the old children's ITSY BITSY SPIDER is creative genius. The spider gets washed down the spout but always goes back up to try again; in COMIN AROUND AGAIN, the song's emphasis on "I believe in love" mirrors the tenacity of the spider. What a shame Simon wasn't awarded for this feat. You will like HEARTBURN if you are fans of Streep and Nicholson, but it's not one of their best efforts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent in every way...
Funny, entertaining & would recommend to anyone who like a good laugh!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Too perfect
Robin Williams can do anything and everything well. In this film, his aging homosexual role is understated. He's got the walk, the wrist, the clothes...he is the perfect stereotype of the older gay male. He's as funny as ever.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very funny remake
(4.5/5 stars)Excellent cast and inspired writing make this remake of the classic French comedy, "La Cage aux folles," a terrific movie. Nathan Lane is perfect as Albert Goldman, a cross-dressing cabaret performer with a flair for the dramatic. His husband, Armand Goldman (or is it Coleman?), is played with understated brilliance by Robin Williams. When Armand's son, Val, wants to bring home his girlfriend, Barbara(Calista Flockhart), a situation comedy ensues. Also wonderfully cast are Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest as Barbara's parents and Hank Azaria as Agador the housekeeper in a performance that is not to be missed. This is one of the funniest films I have seen and I recommend it highly to adults. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Alexandre Dumas's classic tale of fraternal squabbling makes a more than satisfactory transition to celluloid with this 1976 made-for-television swashbuckler. Viewers familiar with the more recent Leonardo DiCaprio version may be stymied at first by the non-MTV pace and the rather unhip presence of Richard Chamberlain in the lead role(s). This well-lensed actioner overcomes a somewhat pokey first half to emerge as a terrific adventure, complete with plenty of derring-do, some sharply pointed dialogue, and a wonderful performance by the incomparably malevolent Patrick McGoohan. Rousing fun for burgeoning rapscallions of all ages. Director Mike Newell would later find success in a different genre with Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Case Of Extreme Sibling Rivalry- -17th Century Style..............

4-0 out of 5 stars Richard Chamberlain is excellent
Richard Chamberlain had already proved himself a fine actor before starring in this TV production of "The Man in the Iron Mask," but here he truly gives the performance of a lifetime. Performances, I should say, because he plays two different (VERY different) roles: King Louis XIV and his long lost twin brother, Phillippe.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and adventure for all!
I recently rented this tape from the local library, after seeing the 1998 version starring Leonardo DiCaprio. I was amazed that I actually enjoyed this one better. It is not so dark in tone, and I enjoy the scenery more. It has everything you would want in an adventure film: lots of swashbuckling, a villain, and a likeable hero. The acting is also superb, with great performances by Richard Chaimberlin and Louis Jordan. This is a fun adventure film that the entire family can enjoy. Do yourself a favor and get this! ... It must be Indiana Jones! German East Africa, 1916:
5-0 out of 5 stars We did kidnap my father! It's a nightmare!
All right, I'm biased. When I watched the whole series on TV I was only about 7, so my memories of most of the episodes are all but nonexistent."Phantom Train" is one of the exceptions, and the most vivid in my mind.So naturally I enjoyed watching it again, even more than the others. It's great as a breather between "Trenches of Hell" and "Oganga", which are very thoughtful and serious. It is a tad hokey, but in that respect most like the Harrison Ford movies.Indy undergoes character developement, however, which is good. The first half has plenty of action, but Indy learns his lesson of the day, and this lesson actually sticks with him and is seen in the movies. That is, that the ability to improvise is a quality.5-0 out of 5 stars VERY, VERY GOOD VIDEO
I've been an Indiana Jones fan for over six years and this was one of the first young Indy videos I watched.I have seen about half of the episodes available on video and so far this is still my favorite. It had a good story with good acting and great special effects. It is a classic tale of adventure in Africa. In the first part of the video Indy accidently goes on a mission to blow up a mysterious train with a flat-bed mounted cannon that has been shelling allied troops but cannot be found. In the second part of the video, Indy and his army buddy Remmy try to survive the wilds of Africa with an important german military prisoner. They run into hostile bush-men, lions, and are being pursued by the entire German army the whole time.Action-packed and full of surprises along with nice bits of humor in appropriate places this video should delight anyone intereseted in Indiana Jones. ... Nothing against the movie itself but I really didn't like the actress who played Viola.Just not believable to me.I liked the play I saw in college better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Words, words, words!I want to hear every one!
I have no reservations about the performances or the cinematography; only about the audio engineering: in Shakespeare where every word is cherished they must all be clearly audible, but this DVD is the only application where I have ever had to use full volume on my TV set, and that was still barely enough, and that is why I have deducted two stars! "I foresee a glittering future for your daughter," the conspiratorial Duke of Northumberland insidiously whispers to the mother of Lady Jane Grey, the woman who would be England's queen, albeit for only nine days. The same could be said for Helena Bonham Carter, who, in her screen debut, carries this historical drama with aplomb. Jane, a principled and precocious 15-year-old (she reads Plato in Greek) was a pawn in a plot to maintain Protestant rule in the wake of young King Edward's death. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Heartfelt Production
On its own terms, this movie is a winner. Why is it that totally true to history or not, actors today cannot be this believable. The performances are universally convincing. Made in 1985,why is it that everyone in this movie put their heart into their performance, and thus I was mesmerized and delighted. When you shed a tear for these young people caught up in the tragedy of political manipulation,it will be no more than the tears of these young actors,so convincing and so deeply rendered. How I wish I could own twenty films like this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Historical, But A Reminder of Romeo and Juliet
I can remeber being a little over eight years old the first time I saw this movie. While I didn't understand it then, I found that the music and the scenery was breath taking. Seeing this movie years later along with other great's such as Young Bess and Mary Queen of Scots, Helena Carter's and Cary Elwes performance's are right up there with such great names as Stuart Granger and Jean Simmons. I would recommend this movie if you like period piece movies, but like I said, don't take into account that the history is a little jumbled, just enjoy it for the tragic history that is burried underneath the plot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jane Grey fan
I own this film on VHS and it's one of the jewels of my collection.I've been a Tudor fan and a Lady Jane Grey fan ever since I watched "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" on CBS in the summer of 1971.I first saw "Lady Jane" in 1986 in the theater and never forgot it.Yes, the movie's not accurate in its depiction of Jane Grey and Guilford Dudley, but I was so happy to finally see a movie about her that it didn't bother me, and the couple's ultimate fate was devastating; it resonated deeply with me.I loved the film then and I love it now (especially with Patrick Stewart in a supporting role as Jane's father, Duke Henry Grey). ... A very interesting movie about an incident which really took place. It is quite pale. though, if you know the real facts of this incident ( like the identity of the "man who never was").
5-0 out of 5 stars The Photography
I saw this movie in a movie house the year it was released in the U.S.A.As I recollect viewing the movie, it was released in the Cinemascope format; essentially a "Letter Box" format. The DVD format starts with a letter box introduction, but then switches to the "Pan and Scan" format. For myself, I find the visual impact I remember of the movie has been lost by using the Pan & Scan format.Every scene looks like it was shot using telephoto lenses, giving the visual effect of always seeing a "Close-up"; it feels like reading a book only four inches away from your eyes. The breadth of the scenes has been lost, significantly diminishing the visual parts of the film. They should re-issue it in letter box format - I would be happy to buy a letter box version. ...
