This tape is a collector's item.
This tape is more of a "must have" for Jerry Seinfeld fans or diehard SNL fans. For others, you may want to think twice before spending good money on this one. That is only because of the length, a mere 32 minutes (and that includes the video company's opening credits). The comedic skits and comedy bits are very good. I believe this originally aired in 1992, a couple of years BEFORE the TV show "Seinfeld" hit its prime. Jerry's fans will like this tape a lot. Especially the "Superman" sketch and the "game show" sketch (where the contestants answer questions, using Jerry's trademark delivery style). Again, if you're a fan of anything "Seinfeld," grab it while you can. It already seems like a collector's item to me. If you're an SNL fan, be aware that the only skits on this tape (except for the opening bit, before the monologue) are the ones in which Jerry appear. The episode's other skits are not included. For fans of both Seinfeld and SNL, definitely purchase it.

One star for being something to put you to sleep
It seems millions of americans suffer from sleep deprivation.I challenge anyone to watch parts of this movie for one week and have any problems sleeping.
A Feast for the Eyes
The mid-1980s was a banner time for E.M. Forster fans. Two of his novels, "A Passage to India" and this, "A Room with a View", were successfully and wonderfully adapted for the big screen. ("Howard's End" would come a few years later.)

Crazy Horse, A Warrior I Honor !!
This is a really great movie and by far the truest of all movies that I've seen for the Custer battle. Crazy Horse is my hero and I still study a great deal of him and the Lakota/Sioux tribe. Oh, Geez!
Didn't like this one. Glad to see Native actors/actresses, butthis portrayal of Crazy Horse way off the mark as far as I wasconcerned. Maybe not quite as bad as the first one--Chief Crazy Horse (from the 50s with Victor Mature), but not much better either. Too much Hollywood here--lots of paint horses and feathers. KL

Well worth watching
A wonderfull movie! Attention to detail, for example some of the statements made by Crazy Horse and Custer, period costume and battles. It is interesting to note that Custer had cut his hair before the battle of the Little Big Horn, which appears to be the only movie to portray this accurately. Custer dies somewhere during the battle and not in the 'classic' back to back end of the battle senario as is popularly portrayed in the 'hero' literature.Read more

Wonderful film, outstanding performances on behalf of all actors and actresses, including Sir Anthony Hopkins. His looks and mannerism was so perfect that I forgot at times that I was not watching "Picasso in action".
Why no DVD after all these years?
When week after week you see some of the slop flipped to DVD quickly, it's surprising to me this interesting film is still VHS only.I disagree with some of the other reviewers- I think Hopkins did a great job at inhabiting Picasso's spirit. Did the film "explain" him? No- but Picasso was such an elusivecomplicated man, it's not entirely surprising.As when Hopkins did Nixon- sure, you don't totally forget it's Anthony Hopkins- but as with his Nixon, Hopkins is mezmorizing here.Hopkins said after playing men like in Remains of the Day who were basically dead from the waist down, he relished the opportunity to play a man who was completely alive- and his joy here is apparent.Beside Hopkins, Natascha McElhone is very intriguing, as are the rest of the supporting cast and the Parisian and Spanish locations.It's a Merchant Ivory piece fer cryin out loud- you KNOW the production values are always going to be rock solid.We'd like a DVD please!

Enduring Picasso
I find Anthony Hopkins to be a master at becoming whatever he intends to create.He was just as believable as President Nixon in "Nixon", as he was a madman in "Silence Of The Lambs".Here again, he does not dissapoint me.The movie is dark, and I would tend not to agree with the accuracy of the historical aspects of the film, but I did find Hopkins to be a compelling Picasso.And, yes once again, I found myself watching Pablo Picasso.I enjoy biographies of painters and creative souls, and I would be hard pressed to find a biography that is uplifting and has a happy ending.I found the same in "Surviving Picasso".It is a little long in the tooth, but I found the cinematography to be beautiful and again, Sir Anthony Hopkins' performance is beautiful.I would reccomend this for any Hopkins lover. ... Great VHS
I found this along with a couple more "Best of" tapes at a local Wal-Mart for only $3.88 each.This tape is great well worth the price.I loved the Clinton sketches.

Boy, all of history should be this funny!

THE BURMESE HARP
Director Kon Ichikawa made a truly great movie, especially considering that this anti-war movie was made not long after the end of the second world war. [1956 release] Having read quite a bit about the Pacific theatre of war as an undergraduate, I came to appreciate this movie about how the trauma of this horrible war affected one Japanese soldier. The soldier becomes spiritually obsessed with burying as many Japanese war dead that he comes across in his journey throughout the country of Burma. And he vows to remain in Burma until he has accomplished this task [a very formidabale task!] The fact that this Cinematic masterpiece is only available on VHS, not DVD, does not detract from the richness of the movie. I rank this movie right up there with "PATHS OF GLORY," as my two most favorite anti-war movies ever made. A must see.

Come Japan, come England, Burma is Buddha's country
At the beginning of this long film the audience sees a spectatcular view red dirt and red mountains of Burma, which is very significant because, if one is familiar with Buddhist tradition, the dust symbollizes the mortal world of suffering and it represents what one wants to brush off if one desires to follow the path of the Buddha. After seeing the bleak terrain, the audience is introduced to a small contigent of soldiers led by Captain Inoue a former music teacher. In order to keep his troops spirits up, the Captain teaches his men how to sing with varying degrees of success. His most gifted soldier is Mizushima, who has taught himself how to play a Burmese Harp which he has mastered quite skillfully.

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. Absolutely AMAZING movie!
This movie is absolutely incredible! I watch it over and over. The singers are amazing, and there are so many more songs that aren't in the Disney Cinderella. I highly recommend this movie for people of all ages who love fairy tales and beautiful songs!

All this talk about race! Are you looking for reality here?No one questions a pumpkin turning into a coach, mice becoming horses...come on! The music is beautiful, the story is magical and believe me, alot of kids won't even question or notice the ethnicity! They're usually color-blind until we point it out to them anyway.This was a wonderful story and CD.

great way to share a classic
this is obviously my own personal opinion, but i have always been a fan of this movie since i was in highschool (which was about 5 years ago). i thought it was refreshing to see a multi-cultured cast in the production instead of the usual conformity of race and color. it's a great movie for kids to enjoy and my own daughter loves this as much as i do. as soon as i saw that it was on DVD i had to snatch it up for myself. i can't stop watching it, i love this video so much! ... Upon its release in 1981, John Irvin's version of Peter Straub'sbestselling horror novel was deemed one of the worst adaptations that the genre had ever produced. Now it's available on DVD, and for the first time in widescreen presentation, and not much has changed. It's still a nearly unwatchable dud. Fred Astaire, John Houseman, Melvyn Douglas, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. play old friends, members of the self-created Chowder Society, who get together and tell ghost tales. The scariest story of all, however, is the one they never speak to each other. Fifty years ago, the four men accidentally killed a young woman, and now she's back(with much less meat on her bones) and seeking vengeance. Sound chilling? Well, in Straub's hands it was, and the novel remains the author's finest achievement. Irvin, however, distills Staub's rich characterizations, gradual tension, and creepy atmosphere, and replaces them with aging golden oldies (only Houseman appears to be having any fun) hamming it up and hokey special-effect shots of a rotting corpse. I read all 55 reviews of this movie and I noticed that some felt that the movie fell far short of the Peter Straub book.
Ghost Story
The story line wasn't bad.The beginning seemed scattered, but once you got more into the story it made sense.Had a bit of nudity in it which I could have done without.

A true ghost story in EVERY sense of the word. A story you tell while sitting around a campfire latr at night as a kid. A star studded cast doesn't hurt, either. Well it wasn't bad
Overall it was just an average video. The title is somewhat deceiving since not all the skits were game shows. What was disappointing was in some sections they didn't show all of the game shows they were parodying.

Varies wildly from hysterically funny to downright awful.

I definately recommend you buying this collectoin of SNL Game Show Parodies. It features some of the greatest SNL sketches ever. One is Dysfunctional Family Feud, which features Chris Farley at his greatest. Also, you'll enjoy Jackie Roger Jr.'s $100,000 Jackpot Wad, which features Billy Crystal as Sammy Davis, Jr. Pay attention to Rajeevs face when Saammy gives the clue for asparagus. And David Spade gives a great performance in Geek, Dweeb, or Spazz. The only thing that I think hould've been included is the rest of the Stand Up and Win sketch. Causes great Need for Noodles!

Excellent Story of the Indianapolis
This movie is a very good adaptation of the events surrounding the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. I was impressed with the attention to detail that the producers paid in the movie.For example, it is known that the ship's doctor burned his hands to the point of uselessness while trying to open a door, and sure enough, this scene was excellently covered in the movie.Stacy Keach stars as Captain Charles McVay, and he does an excellent job throughout the film.Richard Thomas portrays the ship's doctor.The scenes of the sinking and the subsequent struggle to survive on the sea is vividly portrayed.I was also impressed with the attention payed to the rescue and Captain McVay's court martial.In fact, this movie does a better job of covering the court martial phase than many of the books I've read on this subject.I would highly recommend this film to anyone who knows or has read about the story of the USS Indianapolis.

Mission of the VCR
I was interested in the Indianapolis disaster after seeing the movie Jaws, where it is discussed.I was hoping this VHS film would give me some more information, and it might have, if the tape had been of sufficient quality to actually watch. Like JAWS, only real, and worse

An eternal winner
This film is powerful and stunning.It deals with the question about how to deal with the human being when he is arrived to the golden age. The Ballad of Narayama is now one of my favorite films.

Hillarious Video - also to clear up a few things...
Not ALL of the sketches on this video were from Saturday Night Live. In fact, if I remember this correctly, this was actually a prime-time special which aired sometime in the early 90s. I can at least remember watching it on TV back then. These are all sketches by Jack Handy, and its actually mostly original material; maybe a couple or more of the Toonces sketches were actually from Saturday Night Live. So basically this video is a showcase of Jack Handy's humor.
Best of Toonces & Friends
Toonces & friends was so funny! It's a must own!!! Needs to be re-released and in DVD format. I would certainly buy it for myself and for friends. It would make a great stocking stuffer.

Absolutely classic...
Remember when Saturday Night Live was funny? Well, if you don't remember Toonces, then you missed out on some pretty hilarious skits. This particular video is entitled "Toonces and Friends," which kind of urks me because I wanted more of Toonces and less of his friends. However, most of the skits are funny, such as Coach Dobbs, Scruffy the Rat and Abe Lincoln and His Time Machine. The only one I didn't find funny at all was that bizarre Fugitive Couple skit. one of my favorites
This is one of my favorite movies.Its hilarious and has an amazing amount of creative energy squeezed between its first and last murder victims (not major characters, this isn't a spoiler).It's very different from the first Taxing Woman movie, which I liked but wouldn't rent again.The movie is a beautifully executed exercise in style, with a quirky sound track that keeps the story moving. when the sequel isn't the equal
Japanese writer director Juzo Itami�s sequel to his 1987 A Taxing Woman again features Nobuko Miyamoto as the title character, only this time she isn't around as much. The charm of the original film, apart from Itami�s attempt to present modern Westernised Japan and deliberately despoiling the traditional stereotype, was Miyamoto. A descendant of Giullietta Masina in Fellini�s La Strada, her child/woman with freckles and a Louise Brooks bob was both clown and a perfect antidote to the patriarchy of her society, as the sole female Tax Officer in Tokyo�s Tax Inspection Bureau. Her relationship with the main villian also allowed her a romantic interest. However, although here she has moments of inspiration - her writhing when pretending to be in cultist�s trance, the dance step she takes as she walks down a corridor, and the way she responds to a knife being drawn on her - Itami isn�t interested in simply repeating the formula of the original, so we have to endure long periods without Miyamoto. This Show Rules
I remember when this show first came out. I didnt think it would be any good, but i was wrong. The pilot kinda starts out a little slow but it builds up really well, and lets u get to know the caracters. The main thing is the costume...its areally good looking costume and not one of them cheap costumes that doesnt even look like the carachter. one of my favorite movies of all time
this movie works on so many levels. first of all, its engaging from the first minute to the last. its shows an empowered smart woman besting the criminals by her wits and inspiring the weak men around her to rise to greater heights - and should help dispel the concept that Japanese women are weak, and that a woman can be strong with finesse and brains, rather than antagonistic male bashing or kung fu kicks. The main actress is such a rare mixture of charm, quiet strength, intelligence, ande guts ... but with an unbelievabley great smile.
A dangerous comedy
Itami touched some serious nerves in Japan, when he filmed "Minbo: The Gentle Art of Japanese Extortion" (Japanese title "Minbo Onna" - "Extortion Woman.") His choice to show the Yakuza as intimidating jerks, rather than the usual portrayal of the stylish, Robin Hood-like last remnants of the Samurai tradition, earned him a famously slashed face and possibly a murder. I admit that its history was the reason I sought the movie out. Great movie

The First Columbo Episode - Original Airdate Feb 20, 1968
This pilot episode is terrific. This original episode was the beginning of one of the best TV series of all time with great writing, excellent acting and a all-around quality production.

Dr. Ray Flemming (played by Gene Barry) has it all, he's a rich psychiatrist, has powerful friends, and has a beautiful mistress. But, with his wife threatening to pull it all down in a messy divorce, Dr. Flemming decides that it is time to kill her off in the perfect murder. People forget that "Columbo" started out not as a 1970s TV series, but as a single TV movie in 1968 that pitted an arrogant genius against a streetwise bulldog of a detective.Falk is wonderful as a criminal's worst nightmare-a rumpled little man who disarms his opponents with his cheap suits and scatterbrained demeanor.In "Prescription:Murder," Columbo is considerably more polished-and aggressive-than in the TV series in his attempt to take down a psychiatrist (played regally by the always-polished Gene Barry) who's murdered his wife in what he thinks is the perfect crime.The production is sumptuous for television fare, with sets and color that rival cinema productions of the time, and even if all of the Columbo telefilms essentially copy Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder," the story is quite satisfying.As was standard for the time, the best part of "Prescription: Murder" is watching two great actors spar with each other in a plot that is more chessmatch than car chase.They just don't make them like this anymore. ...
