AGreat Halloween Tape
This is my favorite video, I love it! I watch it over and over- not just at Halloween.A lot of the narration is quoted from the book. I love everything about it: the story, the characters, the animation... It's a great video for people of all ages.

For Your Princess
It's so wonderful to live in a time when Disney's strange behavior of taking their classics off the market can be circumvented by great Internet marketers like Amazon. I was able to buy this 5 Star Disney Princess classic recently for my young princess through one of Amazon's third-party sellers. And without that opportunity, my little princess may have outgrown Snow White by the time Disney released it again.
Sleeping Beauty Awakens!
This DVD changed my opinion of Disney's Sleeping Beauty.Since the story has been summarized elsewhere, my review will focus mainly on the DVD itself.I had never been much of a fan previously and viewed this as a sort of Snow White and Cinderella also-ran, although I did love the gorgeous, sweeping adaption of Tchaikovsky's ballet, with "I wonder" and especially "Once Upon a Dream" being among Disney's finest and most transportative musical pieces.The difference between this and prior releases of Sleeping Beauty (indeed, of many Disney movies) is that the digital restoration truly enhances the film possibly beyond what, as one reviewer put it, may actually have been experienced by the original theatrical audience.

One thing I most love about this movie, is the music. Slepping Beauty has songs from the ballet. I watch this movie whenever I can. Disney's adaptation of the beloved fairy tale became a classic in itsown right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including "A Dream Is a WishYour Heart Makes," "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief. We all know the story--the wicked stepmother and stepsisters simply won't have it, this uppity Cinderella thinking she's going to a ball designed to find the handsome prince an appropriate sweetheart, but perseverance, animal buddies, and a well-timed entrance by a fairy godmother make sure things turn out all right. There are a few striking sequences of pureanimation--for example, Cinderella is reflected in bubbles drifting through the air--and the design is rich and evocative throughout. It's a simple story padded here agreeably with comic business, particularly Cinderella's rodent pals (dressed up conspicuously like the dwarf sidekicks of another famous Disney heroine) and their misadventures with a wretched cat named Lucifer. There's also much harrumphing and exposition spouting by the King and the Grand Duke. It's a much simpler and more graceful work than the more frenetically paced animated films of today, which makes it simultaneously quaint and highly gratifying. Read more

How do I play The Royal LIfe ?
I love the movie! I just have one problem. I can't seem to be able to play The Royal Life from Disc 2? I put it in my computer and clicked on The Royal Life and it just gives me a summary of what it's about and then tells me to insert the dvd-rom. Does someone know how to do this?

Disney made its mark as a major studio in 1937 with its first full-length feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Ironically, given this early success, Snow White was their only hit movie for the next 13 years. World War II kicked the hell out of Disney's overseas markets. Even movies today regarded as classic Disney - Pinnochio, Bambi, Fantasia - lost money on initial release. Disney eked through by diversifying into training films for the US government, and the South American films that were part of FDR's Good Neighbor policy, etc. - stuff that made back its costs but not much more. By 1948, Disney was in dire financial straits. They had just enough money for one more movie. Walt Disney realized he needed a hit or his studio probably wouldn't survive, and it would have to be what they did best: a full-length animated feature film. Walt said to himself, "What we need is a movie about a girl in trouble. Audiences love that. They loved Snow White." That's what he wanted: a movie like Snow White, but even more so - more comedy, more drama, more magic, more music, more lovable characters. A Genuine Disney Classic
Disney's fourteenth animated feature is one of Disney's best animated movies, as well as one of Disney's best movies.Though J. M. Barrie's classic "Wendy and Peter," which was later titled "Peter Pan," inspired this feature rather than being a model for it, the movie stands on its own as a wonderful children's story.

Just a brief correction of the previous review.Your heart's in the right place, Charles (fellow Atlantan!) and you're absolutely correct to insist that PETER PAN isn't a widescreen film...but KING & I most definitely WAS NOT the first widescreen movie.That honor likely falls to Abel Gance's 1927 masterpiece NAPOLEON.Even in the modern era, Fox had had their Cinemascope process going strong for 3 years by the time KING & I appeared.The first Cinemascope film was THE ROBE, released on September 16, 1953, followed by BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF the same year and then dozens of others.It IS true that the first widescreen cartoon feature did not appear until 1956: Disney's own LADY AND THE TRAMP, also in Cinemascope.At any rate, buyers can approach this disc with confidence; nothing at all is "cut-off."

Eddie's Greatest Stand-up
Back in 1985 when my parents first got a VCR, the first tape they gave us was something a friend of theirs dubbed with Eddie Murphy Delirious, Purple Rain and the making of Thriller on it.They had no idea that 2/3 of the tape was inappropriate for children and we watched it many times before they discovered.I will always remember laughing till I cried about Aunt Bunny falling down the stairs, the ice cream song and Eddie imitating Richard Pryor while saying "Have a coke and a smile and shut the @#%* up!"

Travelling Gypsies Both By DVD & CD
The Gypsies left their original homeland in northern India around 1000AD. This much has been established by historical and linguistic research, but the reason for their exodus westward is less certain. They reached Europe by the early C14th, crossing from Asia Minor by way of Crete and the Peloponnesus, and continued their dispersal westward and northward. By the end of the C14th they were already settled in large numbers in the Balkans and Danube lands, where an undeveloped economic structure and primitive technology gave Gypsy smiths and cobblers the chance to compete with local artisans. Early accounts of their arrival suggest that the curiosity and sympathy they originally aroused were accompanied by suspicion and hostlity, and soon their status changed dramatically from protected guests to persecuted outlaws. Within a 100 years of their first appearance, most countries in western Europe had passed savage laws for their expulsion: some even legislated to include the death penalty. 'Lacho Drom' is a wonderful travelogue of Rom music which traces this migration. The music and demeanour of the people says it all; languages that transcend regional barriers. Clearly, by Czechoslovakia, we have entered the Rom estate popularised by European literature's cliches, extolled by the excessive practice of all vices known to Man. The film's concluding lament caps an increasingly sad tale of persecution born, nevertheless, with brave equanimity. The appropriate footnote, if you can source it, is Joseph Koudelka's grave portfolio of Gypsies that was published by Aperture in the mid 1970s. I hestitate to trumpet aesthetics here, where it obviously hurts, but Koudelka's images are some of the most stunningly beautiful you'll ever see. There's nothing vouyeristic about Koudelka as in nearly every instance he's acknowledged by his subjects. And that implicit trust is rarely evinced anywhere, anytime, resulting in a candour that might well move you to tears.

A wonderful and moving documentary!
This is one of my favorite documentary, still wish that they would release on DVD! I love the stories, and the beauty that it shows. It also is a great way to see the life style of Nomads from all over the world!

You hairy little bed-stealer! This needs to be DVD-released NOW!!!
Rocket Man is another favorite of mine. Recently, UPN teased us by showing it on TV. Got my hopes up that the next time I was at Best Buy or any other DVD retailer that I would finally get my hands on this gem. But no. PLEASE IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, RELEASE THIS ON DVD! To anyone curious about viewing this movie, it's great fun and shouldn't be missed. Harland Williams is absolutely hilarious as a computer whiz who winds up getting sent on a mission to Mars. It's a Disney movie so prepare for a tidy ending as usual, but you'll be laughing the whole way through this journey, especially once they are on Mars. I don't want to give away any more and spoil it for you all, but if you think Williams is funny in Half Baked or even in his bit part as the serial killer in There's Something About Mary just to name a few, he's an absolute riot in this. For now, you'll have to rent/buy on VHS, but let's hope that this makes its way onto DVD soon!

By Far My Favorite Disney Movie!!!
I love this movie because it's very cute and sweet. One of my favorite parts is when all the dogs are sending around the "twilight bark". It's kind of like in The Resuers Down Under when the mice send around the message.

The Most Romantic of All Disney Films
I fell in love with this movie when I was little, back in 1955 when "Lady and the Tramp" first came to the theaters, and am probably one of the few who can actually remember seeing the promo show, "The Story of Dogs" on the old Disneyworld TV series from the early 50's.I actually had the rare privildge of being taken twice!To this day, it remains my all-time favorite Disney film, favorite dog film, and continues to charm, amuse, and move me to tears.
Romantic Comedy Goes to the Dogs
Lady and the Trap has been an enduring Disney classic for 50 years now and it's amazing how well it holds up after all that time.The hand painted animation is beautiful and the story and music are top notch.This film is an example of Disney animation at its classic best.

Girl meets Guy
A love story like no other. The girl and boy meet, and its magic!
One can only hope...
Sometimes there are movies that are corny and pointless , this might be that movie BUT I have to say it's my GULITY PLEASURE, as much of the 80's was about the good girl with the bad guy or the poor girl with the rich guy, I love 80's films they are nostalgic, or maybe more like a fresh of breath air, no gimmicks, no special effects and might not be corny or pointless after all. So one can only hope of a DVD Release soon!

Why isn't this on DVD?
I love, love, love this movie.It is a wonderful star-crossed lovers story, with some terrific secondary characters (D.B. Sweeney with the pack of cigarettes rolled up in his sleeve makes me laugh every time, as does the Mapmaker's "Radcliffe-Radish" explanation).But WHY hasn't this been released on DVD?If "Tuff Turf" is on DVD, "Fire With Fire" absolutely should be too. ... Imaginatively rendered but slightly chilly, this 1951 Disney adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic is also appropriately surreal. Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) has all the anticipated experiences: shrinking and growing, meeting the White Rabbit, having tea with the Mad Hatter, etc. Characterization is very strong, and the Disney team worked hard to bring screen personality to Carroll's eccentric creations. For a Disney film, however, it seems more the self-satisfied sum of its inventiveness than a truly engaging experience. Read more

DONT listen to that silly man " a viewer" He doesnt know a thing. You can watch this extrodinary film on DVD and reap the hearty rewards of laughter and happiness. Or you can watch a VHS and dial up the internet while you toast your snax on a fire. In other words....The dvd is far better then any old VHS. This DVD is the best. Just believe me. You will thank me later. And see Spamalot too.

A breath of fresh air.
With all the deadly serious movies about the grail out there these days it's good to once again watch a movie that treats the subject with a sense of humor.
A Newt?
One of my favorite comedies, and Monty Python's best and most irreverent movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python troop made three films and had a television series that challenged the status quo by dealing with religion, class welfare, politics and dead parrots. There humor seems as fresh and rebellious today as when it was aired. Sometimes their humor was forced -- some scenes in The Meaning of Lif(e) ; however, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has the perfect mix of antitoletarism, irreverence and silly sots.

Family Dog - Family Favorite
The first half of this is a less than memorable Christopher Lloyd episode of Amazing Stories, which says a lot about the writing since Christopher Lloyd could make a piece of toast funny. The second half of this is the Family Dog, which is not only memorable, but classic and under appreciated. This animated half hour has excellent writing, animation, and voice talent - including Annie Potts as the mother. The hilarity of home life is in your face and leaves you wanting more. My sisters, brother, even my mother quoted it for years after seeing it, "Oh my gawd they've taken the coffee maker!" My family was very grateful when years after seeing it, I bought each of them a copy through Amazon. They love it and watch it over and over- and what makes a classic of something beyond the audiences love of returning to the material? Even though the eventual animated series it spawned lacked the same writing punch, I would highly recommend this to anyone with a love of good clean "art imitating family life" humor.

It's perfect... would like it on DVD
We first watched it about 18 years ago and it's brilliant, a real gem. We watch it every couple of years now and enjoy just as much. The VHS tape (which was a copy) is almost unwatchable... would love to get the DVD.

OH WOW!!!!!!
I LOVE this movie So much!I don't care what kind of trouble Mel Gibson is going thru in his personal life, this movie is really a masterpiece!It really gets across how much our precious Lord really did suffer for us!This film makes me want to cry, scream, but mostly it makes me want to CHEER!And I did!When I saw it in the theater, and it went off, I yelled "NO!!! Too much beating
The movie is punctuated by unfortunate series of continuous beating. Any human being with massive strength would not have been able to sustain such number of flagellations using whips with pointed hooks and nails.

This movie is very inspiring."The Dawn Patrol," is very war related, as it takes place during the war and the patrol's of the flying aces dropping bombs and fighting the Germans.Errol Flynn is the very heroic flyer and loves his country and honors his duty in the service.It's really inspiring, especially his relationship between his good friend in the movie and in real life David Nivan they are true friends, their friendship is broken up for awhile by something Errol has to do it being his job and duty.It's a real moving film at the same time, inspiring, patriotic , truthful and sad.It shows what being in the air patrol during the war really was like a very true and relastic account of it. A very moving film.I think it was really well done, especially the flying scenes.

Grim WW1 based anti-war flick
Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and David Niven star in the sobering 1938 film "The Dawn Patrol" which undoubtedly served as the model for the WW2 classic "Twelve O'Clock High".They are all members of the 59th fighter squadron of the Royal Flying Corps based in France in 1915.A somber Basil Rathbone playing Major Brand is the squadron leader.Day after day he depressingly orders his pilots on dangerous missions which create a high mortality rate.Ace pilot Capt. Courtney played by Flynn and his able wingman Lt. Scott played by Niven continously marshal replacement pilots with little combat experience into the skies to face almost certain death.Flynn despises Rathbone for the missions of death he orders them on.

An Admirable Walk into the American Past
Actual research on the now-raised Hunley and its crew suggests some of the information in this historical drama may be incorrect, but its spirit is not flawed.It shows well the diverse personalities that would come together in one of the landmark projects of Naval warfare in one of the great desperate attempts to turn the tide of the American Civil War toward southern Independence.
Well made film, but where can I get a DVD???
I've seen the film on German television recently - with german dubbed actors. Sounded a bit odd but otherwise the movie was very well made and quite authentic, I found. I browsed every Amazon in Europe and in the United States - but no DVD. US-NTSC Format VHS-Videos don't work in Europe. We've got 220 V/50 Hz, remember that, when selling to an important market in Europe - that is good ol' Deutschland!! When can I reckon with a european compatible Video or a DVD? (Not in years, please...)Thank you for your kind consideration.

Wonderful, warm trip down memory lane!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a charming and playful Halloween story that adults and kids will love. Bing Crosby's smooth tones are the perfect accompaniment for this old-fashionied cartoon - perfect for snuggling under the covers on a dark, rainy night! I absolutely loved it as a 7-year-old kid and I am thrilled to share it with my little boy.

The eleventh animated Disney masterpiece is a winner
I recently reviewed "Fun and Fancy Free," released just two years before this film.Walt Disney tried the same thing in that film that he did in this film; he combined two shorts into one release.Unfortunately, the technique did not work well in "Fun and Fancy Free."The technique worked very well in this feature.
