4-0 out of 5 stars Please put this on DVD
This movie is so bad it's good. And I don't mean Gone With the Wind good.More like Showgirls.Sleazy, preposterous, but a heck of a lot of fun.Don't take it seriously.Enjoy it for what it is, trashy, stupid, fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie is Low-grade Porn.
I purchased the movie only because I was captivated by the cover's depiction of interracial couples. The story line is slow and wonders-a-long without any hint of a plot, but I found the historical setting to be splendid. The depiction of plantation life in Antebellum Louisiana or rather Southern Society in general is intriguing if not entertaining, but can hardly be called accurate. When viewing this film keep in mind that it is merely for entertainment purposes and NOT historical documentation.I gave this film 5 stars for the historical setting, because I felt the period was depicted quite well and had believable characters, even though Southern Society was somewhat exaggerated in its depiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful comedy for all ages
Veteran actor James Mason's "straight man Maxwell" to Ken Norton's "boiled man Mede" is a highlight of one of the most entertaining comedies of the past few decades.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget PC Culture for a Few Hours and Just Enjoy the Movie!
I still remember the first time I read "Gone with the Wind".I was in my native Georgia, in high school, and spent a weekend in bed with the book.Once I started reading it, I could not put it down.Margaret Mitchell's characters were sparkling with vitality and a contagious energy that made you feel as though they were your own neighbors and family!
1-0 out of 5 stars Oh, those poor racists lost their slaves, how sad!
    (1) Scarlett O'Hara is the least likable "heroine" I've ever seen. She has no redeeming qualities.
1-0 out of 5 stars Long and laborious, and so very stupid... how is this a classic?
This is another of those movies I wonder "HOW is this a classic?". Maybe the book was a lot better than the movie! I was watching this, not expecting much, but expecting to earn my respect, the way "Scarface" or "Casablanca", movies I don't like but have earned my respect as classic movies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Peter Lorre is indeed one of a kind!!
A superb and atmospheric early horror film with fine acting, super effects, tight script and haunting soundtrack. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fantastic horror score by the great Max Steiner.Lorre is in top form and the severed hand effects(in most cases)easily stand up against 1991's Addams Family 'Thing' effects.
3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of silly, but entertaining
If not for Peter Lorre, this movie might be too silly to sit through. But Lorre turns in a grand performance, along with G. Carroll Nash as the detective.3-0 out of 5 stars Give Peter Lorre A Hand!!
This is a well-titled, but bizarre horror film from Warner Bros, a studio not known for producing horror films.Victor Francen stars as a renowned pianist living in one of those dark creepy movie mansions/castles.One hand is useless, so he uses his other hand to play.He relies heavily on his nurse, Andrea King, shuns his secretary, Peter Lorre, and sometimes seeks the company of Robert Alda who helped adapt the music for one-handed playing. When Francen dies (violently) and leaves his estate to his nurse, this sets off a series of strange events as everyone is terrorized by his disembodied hand!!Read more

I only saw like two shows, but theese are nothing compared to the awsome books! I wish they copied the books axactly and got better acters, then i'd be worth it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Animorphs The Invasion Series pt. 1, The Incasion Begins!
I am a really big Animorphs fan, and to tell you the truth, this show sucked compared to the book series.A lot of the books' story's were meshed into one, making an akward episode. Also they left us at a cliffhanger point!
4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the books, but it's still good.
This three episode vhs contains some of the best episodes of the t.v show. "The first three." The show is no where near as good as the books. I only wished that they had made a CGI animorphs show or something. The lack of fighting is the only thing lacking in this. Other than that the caracters are portrayed farly well and the differences from the book are tollerated. I own every one of the books and have read them all. I've seen all of the episodes in the series as well. And I own all four of the VHS tapes. I've also taped nearly every episode in ther series, but I am missing 3. I wish they would realese the full season one and season two onto DVD. I would buy it the day it came out. With all of the other DVD sets coming out I'm hoping that this one will be released soon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Well.....................................
It could have been more realistic, but the special effects were good, the andalite ship looked cool, the music fit the movie, & it was darmatic ( I know, I spelled it wrong! sorry.) Over all it was okay, but they should have followed the books better. Read the books first, but the movie is worth watching. It has really good graficis. Howenver, they need to make everything ( espeillay the andalites) more realistic. And they seriously need to take out thatpart where Visser 3 pretends to be an adalite and goes, "Andalite cousin....." That is annoying & stupid. This was a good movie, though. Don't buy it, but get it from a libaray. It's worth watching.

3-0 out of 5 stars Well, it's okay.......................
I really like the books, but the movie twisted things around WHAY to much. To start:A)Where's Marco's sense of humor? B)Why does Visser 3 spend so much time in human morph? C)Ax is found in the ocean, NOT the construction site! D) Andilites DO NOT have manes! Where'ed they get that idea? E) After the first setence, Ax speaks perfectly- where's the stuttering? F) Why is Ax always in human morph? G)Why can't we ever see an ENTIRE andalite? H) THERE IS NO DISK! I)Andalite have 7 NOT 5 fingers J)Rachel is an ELEPHANT, not a lion, and Marco is a grorrila K)Where are the morphing outfits? L) Ax is supposed to be a technaligical genius M) Where's Cassie's morphing talent?

As if alien invasion isn't enough to deal with, Rachel finds out herdivorced dad is moving 1,000 miles away and wants her to leave her friends, mother, and sister behind and join him in "The Stranger," the first of three 24-minute episodes based on the Scholastic book series by K.A. Applegate. While she is mulling over Dad's offer, Rachel and the rest of the band ofmorphing teenagers face a tempting offer: stay on earth and fight whatappears to be a losing battle to the invading Yeerks, or take refuge on a safeplanet with their families. In "The Leader," parts 1 and 2, Jake and Marcoare caught morphing into animals and launched into space to face a powerful new Yeerk leader, Visser One, who turns out to be the mother Marco thoughthad been dead for two years. The three episodes from Nickelodeon's prime-time series are sandwiched by extra footage of Marco first making his case to quit theteens' quest to save the earth and then, after discovering his mother's fate, vowing to fight until she is free. This well-produced adventure seriescombines domestic tales with science fiction geared toward ages6-12. Read more

    3-0 out of 5 stars concerned reader/watcher
The show is okay, but has no comparison to the book series. The books are more graphic, and funnier. Also, They twist the story around.Like in the reaction.Rachel is the one who has the allergec reaction, not cassie. The actors can't act either. The people who played Jake, Tobias, and Cassie are the only people that I have seen on other T.V. shows.

1-0 out of 5 stars Read the books
Read the books. They are awsome one of the best book series ever made. This show is [is bad]. Morphing is only showed half the time. In the books there are intenes battles and an awsome story. In this show there are no battles just sneaking around. There are no Taxxons. The andalites look like weird mupputs and you never see there whole body at once. Ax and Visser three are always in human morph. The hork bajar look right but they don't move anywhere. They just stand there. Remember the witty and smart dialoge of the books replaced with stupid and unrehersed acting of the show. The charactors don't look like the book charactors at all. Read the books don't watch this [show].

5-0 out of 5 stars The Enemy Among Us
This movie is great. The 4th one is the best but this one is right behind it.In the Stranger Rachel is offered by her dad to move 1,000 miles away with him. Then Jake, Rachel, Marco, and Cassie are warned by Tobias that Ax is in trouble. They attempt to save him but are caught in a net. Then the net vanishes.Tobias is in human form much to everyone's suprise. They are greeted by a being called the Ellimist. He offers them a chance to leave Earth with their families including a human Tobias, Tom, and possibly Marco's mom.He shows them what happens in the future after they are caught.Rachel is Visser Three's (now Visser One) best warrior and Tobias was roasted and eaten with barbaque sauce.Rachel takes a knife from her older self. The Animorphs refuse his offer. They are caught in the net.Rachel cuts it with the knife.Marco and Rachel save Ax and Rachel doesn't go with her father. In The leader Part 1 Jake discovers there is a second Kandrona at the EGS tower. They set out to destroy it. JAke and Marco are captured and taken to the Mother Ship where MArco discovers a suprising secret. In Part 2 Jake and Marco steal a Blade SHip and with Ax's help they get back to Earth.Marco now has a new reason to fight the Yeerks. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
I've always enjoyed "Cruising", Billy Friedkin's opus on violence, male homosexuality, leather and all things bizarre. Right from that great line, "Have you ever been porked?" between stars Paul Sorvino and a fresh-faced Al Pacino, this film draws me in like few others.

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
This movie was pretty good. I liked the witch. She is my favorite character because she is a pretty bad villain and I like villains. The parts of the movie that I liked best were the parts with the Wizard and the Munchkins.Once Dorothy and the scarecrow, lion and tin man reach Oz, it gets very interesting. You finally get to see the place they've been following the yellow brick road for. It's cool.I am six.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Version of the Wizard of Oz yet
Known to all, this is the story of Dorothy Gale and herjourney to the magical land of Oz. She meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion who desperately needs courage. The most popular film of all time , seen by over a billion people. It's timelessness is proof enough of its value . Certainly flawed when scrutinized and written about for 56 years, but still most beloved. In 1998 rereleased on the big screen: magic. And admittedly the most important film of my life: As a child I was obsessed with the film and only a little less now.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Never Gets Old
"The Wizard Of Oz" is a film truly worthy of the title timeless. No matter how many times, you can't help but be amazed by the sense of wonder and inspiration this film creates. Even after 67 years, it's still one of the most impressive and uplifiting moments in cinema.

1-0 out of 5 stars For shame
These books are great and the movie made a joke out of them. Visser 3 looks like a blue hair ball and theirs NO ACTION!

1-0 out of 5 stars A shame to the name Animorph
This like its predeseres is an insult to the magical books. The books were great this wasn't. Gone is the intense action and fights the book described. Now we get garbage sneaking around. The andalites are very fake and are never showen all at once. No taxxons at all. The hork bajar just stand there. Gone is the witty smart acting of the books replaced by total garbage. Read the books and stay away from this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Legacy Survives
This is the best of the 4 movies! The 3 episodes are The Capture Parts 1 and 2 and Not My Problem. In the Capture Part 1 The animorphs discover the yeerks are in charge of a health clinic where the governor will receive a treatment and if the Yeerk's plan is successful he will be a human-controller.He is also running for president! Jake falls into the Yeerk Pool and becomes a controller. In the Capture Part 2 Ax figures out that Jake is a human-controller.Jake keeps reassuring the animorphs that he is not and they figure they must lock him up for 3 days to be sure.On the thrid day Jake waits for Rachel (who is guarding him) to fall asleep. He then morphs to dog and escapes the barn undetected (or so he thinks). He leads the animorphs to a new entrance to the Yeerk Pool.He finds out that his friends knew he escaped since Rachel had only been pretending. The Yeerk dies and the Animorphs meet at the mall where Jake calls tom disgusing his voice telling him not to give up.In Not My Problem Jake has had enough between fighting Yeerks and keeping up with his schoolwork. He wishes he never met the Elfangor and the Ellimist grants his wish. Then durind their new lives Tobias (who is the only animorph) tells Rachel about the Yeerk threat. At 1st she thinks he's nuts.Later they all go to a Sharing meeting where Tobias is caught sneeking around. It is then revealed that Jake is a controller. After school Tobias calls Rachel and asks her to meet him at the Spider Club (the place where the Sharing meeting was held).Jake follows her and a lion saves her from Jake. The lion turns out to be Tobias. He and Rachel tie Jake up and then Jake askshim about the "andalite" that attacks him.It turns out that Rachel has been a controller since the previous night and then she tells Jake everything.Tobias tries to escape but Tom, Cassie, Marco, and 2 punks cut off his escape. He is captured and Visser 3 comes in and promotes Jake to Visser 10.Jake tries to infest Tobias but fails when the real Jake fights back.Jake is then in his room back in a world where Tobias is still a hawk, the animorphs exist and none of them are controllers. Was it a dream or real? All in all this is a great movie. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Schmaltz Fest
Unfortunately, this 30's schmaltz-fest seems pretty dated by now.I guess the Depression-era audiences needed some fluff4-0 out of 5 stars A FANTASIA ON STRAUSS.
The highly fictionalized fantasia on the life of the great Johann Strauss. This 1938 film is a sacher torte of pleasure for anyone who loves his music and, in the lead, Fernand Gravet does a commendable job acting-wise. The very attractive - albeit large-boned - Polish soprano Miliza Korjus sings with a truly brilliant voice & she became the object of intense jealousy from M-G-M's reigning diva, Jeanette MacDonald! Because it was decided that there wasn't room for two Prima Donnas at the studio, the firmly established MacDonald was kept on the payroll while the European Korjus virtually went into American obscurity. Backgrounds for the film were shot in Chino, California. It is rumoured that portions of this underrated gem was indeed directed by Josef Von Sternberg.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hollywood operetta at its best
Take the story of a man torn between two women, add the music of Johann Strauss and the scenery of 1840's Vienna and you have The Great Waltz, an irresistible cream puff of a movie.Miliza Korjus-rhymes with gorgeous and she is-portrays the fictional opera singer Carla Doner in a delicious performance that verges on May West camp, murmuring most of her lines through a perpetual full-toothed grin and waltzing herself giddy while singing absolutely impossible sounding obliggatoes to Strauss's walzes-never loosing a beat and never out of breath!Luise Rainer's innate sweetness and vulnerability are perfect for Poldi, Strauss's devoted wife.Watch her silent reaction when she realizes that the song she thought he wrote for her was actually intended for Madame Doner-incredible acting. On the other hand, Fernand Gravet, as Strauss, is unexceptional and a bit bland.Among the excellent supporting cast, Hugh Herbert as the befuddled music publisher and Curt Bois as the comic, but wise violinist are outstanding. The movie does require a temporary suspension of belief. It is full of improbabilities, including the all-female orchestra that performs Tales of the Vienna Woods in a biergarten--wearing evening gowns, Madam Doner's apparent ability to glance at a piece of music once and perform it word and note perfect (the citizens of Vienna take this one step further by singing along even though the waltzes in question have yet to be published!), and the most peculiar version of Die Fledermaus ever performed. If you are looking for historical accuracy or musical purity, this is not your movie, but if you want a delightful Hollywood operetta, you can't do much better than The Great Waltz. ... Read more

This movie is a fantastic must see from the 80's. Especially for anyone that loves the music of INXS, the soundtrack is great and the dance scene at the gym still makes me wonder where Adian Quinn learned to dance like that.If you have missed this one please try to get a copy, it is a must see and should be on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Underated, Overlooked Classic!
Alot of people have never seen or even heard about this 1984 movie. Reckless is a underated, overlooked classic. The movie stars Adain Quinn as Johnny in his break out role & Daryl Hannah early in her career plays Tracey. Movie takes place in a gray, smoggy, depressing looking steel town somewhere in Pennsylvania. Johnny is a troubled smart {...} rebel with a alcholic father, no friends & years before his mother abandoned the family for reasons that are not clear. Tracey is a pretty & popular cheerleader with a loving upper middle class family preparing for college in the fall. But something is missing for Tracey - her boyfriend & friends bore her & she feels she is missing out on something. She desparately wants to live on the edge instead of her predictable, safe, day-to-day, ho-hum exsistance. Tracey wants excitement. She exchanges glances in class with Johnny. A charity dance pairs her with him by chance. They play cat & mouse games. He challenges her. She takes dares. So she takes up with the mysterious, sexy & dangerous Johnny & starts really living & feeling for the first time in her life. Their chemistry & sexual attraction is instant & all consuming. They fall quickly in love & lust. Film contains more than one scene of the sexiest, most graphic, explicit & passionate sex scenes allowed in a R rated film. Full frontal nudity. A steamy pool scene. A love scene in a boiler room of their empty school. Her parents bed. You can almost feel Johnny's obsession with Tracey. A excellent soundtrack with Bob Segar's songs & new wave music of the 1980's really adds to the film. The ending really leaves it up to your imagination as to what might happen next. Do they really ride off into the sunset forever? I would really recommend you track this film down -it won't dissappoint. This is one of my favorite films of all time. Really brings you back to your high school days & the excitement of first love.

4-0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
Although i thought Darryl Hannah's performance was especially wooden, i absolutely loved it. I remember it was the first time i ever laid eyes on Aidan Quinn. I especially love the dance scene in that film. One of the great 80s flicks! I'm in the process of collecting my fav 80's flicks and was very disappointed to see this one has'nt made it to dvd yet. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This remake is only good if you haven't seen the original.
George C. Scott made my girlfriend cry she was so moved by this version of the film. Then I showed her the classic version with Peter Fonda et.al.And she said that "Every kid in America or anyone who applies for U.S. citizenship should have to watch it."
1-0 out of 5 stars Do NOT waste your time!..See the original 1957 version instead!
With all due respect to those of you who gave this a thumbs up, this 1997 version of "12 Angry Men" is at best a "passionless, passionate" remake of the 1957 original with Henry Fonda and Lee Cobb.
4-0 out of 5 stars An Inside Look
12 Angry Men is a movie about a jury made up of 12 very different men that have just listened to a murder case and must come to a conclusion that will determine a young mans future. It is very interesting to see the twelve different men's intents, interests and personalities. What seems to be an easy guilty vote in the beginning boils down into a long and heated argument between the men as some people just want to go home and some people want to serve justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Celluloid Black and White Heaven
Watch this film and you are immediately one up!!Unlike poor Palfrey played by the wonderfully unassuming Ian Carmichael. If you are feeling down and want a story with a happy ending, thats romantic without being too sloppy, funny without being crudely slapstick and innocent but with a gleam in its eye, then this is the film for you. As ever the performances of Alastair Simm, Terry Thomas, Carmichael and the rest of the cast end up overshadowing the never-the-less delightful plot.Actors of this calibre from this period always seem not to be acting if you know what I mean. This gives the viewer such empathy with their plight that one becomes engrossed totally, squirming with Palfreys plight and chuckling at the Professors ploys and cheering when the baddy gets his and Palfrey gets the beautiful April.

"... the moment when Adam bit into that apple. At which moment, the first loser was born.Yes, the pattern was set.The world was divided not into male and female, that's a mere superficial division of minor importance. No, there is another division, another dichotomy more basic, more profound. At that fateful moment, the world was divided into winners and losers, top men and underdogs. In a word, the one up and the one down."--from Professor Potter's lecture at the College of Lifemanship, Yeovil.5-0 out of 5 stars "How did you meet this not-quite-blonde?"
In the British comedy, "School for Scoundrels" Ian Carmichael plays mild-mannered, docile Henry Palfrey. Palfrey is a nice man--too nice. His employees are disrespectful, waiters are rude to him, but the final blow comes when acquaintance Raymond Delauney (Terry Thomas) steals Henry's girlfriend. In desperation, Henry enrolls at the College of Lifemanship. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a wonderful film and I highly recommend it.
Two girls are left with their grandmother after their mother drops them off at her home. She raises them until her death and ends up with their unique Aunt Sylvie. One sister, Lucille, wants to leave her and her sister because she wants something different than they seem to do. She wants a more conventional life that Aunt Sylvie can't provide. The other sister, Ruthie, is similar to her aunt and doesn't mind Sylvie's quirky ways. But townspeople can't mind their business and steps in to see Ruthie is raised how they think is correct.
5-0 out of 5 stars Appealingly Honest
There are movies that I hardly remember 6 months after watching and a few that stay with me forever.Housekeeping is one of the latter.I'm hard pressed to say exactly why that is.You've gotta' love the Aunt Sylvie character.Perhaps we all long to be that carefree and unconcerned with the demands of conventional society.Maybe it's a sadness felt for the two sisters, so close after being orphaned at a young age who gradually drift apart as one is drawn to a conventional life and one to Aunt Sylvie's.Whatever it is, the film strikes a chord in me that few movies do.It's an honest story with real and appealing characters played with sensitivity and bitter-sweet humor, never for cheap laughs.Maybe that's what people who love this film are drawn to.Whatever it is, for me it has a haunting appeal that hasn't dimmed with repeated viewings.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie Is An American Classic...To Me At Least

3-0 out of 5 stars I Prefer the Remake, Which I Usually Don't!
I'm not the type of movie viewer to enjoy the remake of a film more than the orignal. But in this case, I'm going to make an exception.
5-0 out of 5 stars The classic movie about a cracked up bomber pilot's ghost
A Guy Named Joe is THE classic movie about a cracked up WWII bomber pilot (Spencer Tracy) sent back from Heaven as a ghost to provide guidance, like a guardian angel, to a new pilot trainee who turns out to fall in love with the ghost's girlfriend (Irene Dunne).I think this is the only movie in which Spencer Tracy played opposite Irene Dunne, who was one of the classiest leading ladies of her time (The Awful Truth, Penny Serenade, Life With Father, I Remember Mama, Anna and the King of Siam, The Mudlark, etc.).

5-0 out of 5 stars The way it was.
This is exactly the way it was for me when I went through the police academy in 1974. The golden age of police work. If you were there you understand! This needs to be out on widescreen DVD!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cop Movie of all time
Words cant truly express how realistic this movie is. It faces the harsh realities of police work, most havent changed since this movie was made.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best Police movie ever
This movie inspired me to a law enforcement career that lasted 28 years. George C. Scott (Officer Kilvinsky) delivers one of his best performances as a veteran patrolman of the L.A.P.D. He teaches a rookie cop "Stacy Keach" how to survive on the streets of L.A. Erik Estrada plays a former gang banger that turned cop, only to find himself working patrol in his old stomping grounds. The realism was great. No doubt they used police advisors when making the film. A sad movie that will make you realize that cops are human. Kilvinsky the cynical cop, shows compassion in dealing with illegal Mexican immigrants that are being taken advantage of by a money grubbing landlord. Stacy Keach suffers a failed marriage and gets involved in an interracial relationship. Truly a gut wrenching movie that shows the brutality of police work, both mentally and physically. I'd pay a hundred dollars if I could get the movie on DVD. ... Read more

For a couple of hours in 1990, David Lynch took over the network airwaves and subtly, subversively transformed American television forever. Amazingly, the TV series that followed this rich and strange feature-length pilot became an international phenomenon as people all over the world became obsessed by one question: Who killed Laura Palmer? Mindblowing...mezmerizing...incredible. This is the best show that has ever been on television.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Laura Palmer is dead . . . wrapped in plastic . . .
I am taking a trip to the Seattle area this week and decided that I wanted to have lunch at the Great Northern Hotel, owned by Benjamin Horne (est. 1927).The hotel, which offers its guests a spectacular view of Whitetail Falls, is located slightly north of Twin Peaks, just below the base of Black Lake. The Great Northern is actually the Salish Lodge, perched on a hillside just above Snoqualmie Falls. To prepare myself for the experience, and to indoctrinate my oldest daughter into yet another cult television show, we watched the first season of "Twin Peaks" together starting with the two hour pilot episode that originally aired Sunday, April 8, 1990 on ABC.Fifteen years later, this pilot episode written by Mark Frost ("Hill Street Blues") and David Lynch ("Blue Velvet") still stands up.
4-0 out of 5 stars Start here.
This is pretty much what any fan of the show or David Lynch needs to start with. It's the original movie/pilot, and is a great piece of work. The story, the characters, and the whole northwest environment really make for an interesting and sometimes creepy watch. Many cool actors showed up in "Twin Peaks", among them Kyle McLachlan, Lara Flynn-Boyle, Sheryl Lee, Jack Nance, and the sexy Sherilyn Fenn. If you enjoy this, seek out the VHS collectors series, episodes 1-7. Or the DVD first season, which is also episodes 1-7, minus this pilot. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Ranking No. 21 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American films, this 1940 classic is a bit dated in its noble sentimentality, but it remains a luminous example of Hollywood classicism from the peerless director of mythic Americana, John Ford. Adapted by Nunnally Johnson from John Steinbeck's classic novel, the film tells a simple story about Oklahoma farmers leaving the depression-era dustbowl for the promised land of California, but it's the story's emotional resonance and theme of human perseverance that makes the movie so richly and timelessly rewarding. It's all about the humble Joad family's cross-country trek to escape the economic devastation of their ruined farmland, beginning when Tom Joad (Henry Fonda) returns from a four-year prison term to discover that his family home is empty. He's reunited with his family just as they're setting out for the westbound journey, and thus begins an odyssey of saddening losses and strengthening hopes. As Ma Joad, Oscar-winner Jane Darwell is the embodiment of one of America's greatest social tragedies and the "Okie" spirit of pressing forward against all odds (as she says, "because we're the people"). A documentary-styled production for which Ford and cinematographer Gregg Toland demanded painstaking authenticity, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars New Orleans and the Dust Bowl are the same thing
It is defined still today as one of the most socialists film to come out from mainstream Hollywood.Contains scenes of authoritarian brutality and the awakening of proletarian consciousness.A film like this would be impossible in today's political context, and for sure it will not win Oscars (nowadays some throwaway things like "Crash" get the golden uncle).Despite a populist epilogue added by master producer Zanuk the events depicted in the film remain as the strongest warning against capitalism that I ever seen from an American movie.Greg Tolland's photography and the sweeping force of the story will blow you away.
5-0 out of 5 stars seeing "Grapes of Wrath" is reliving my family's past!
I've seen "Grapes of Wrath" many many times, and I bought the DVD to show my grandchildren what life was like and still is for many farmworkers. The Mexican farmworkers also went thru alot of hardships trying to survive and barely exist on what little they earned by harvesting the crops in California, Texas, Idaho, etc. etc.I show my Grandchildren this film to show the importance of getting an education, so as to break the cycle of living impoverished by working in the fields. Also, the more education you have, then you can do more to bring about justice to the lives of FarmWorkers by getting involved in making changes, and sometimes taking risks. I lived that life, so I know what I am talking about when I mentioned the hardhsips one had to endure in order to survive! and I enjoyed the way the film is told and Henry Fonda has always been one of my favorite Actors , as well as his daughter Jane Fonda. I recommend this movie to anyone that wishes to understand the plight of the Farmworker, whether they be "Oakies","Mexican",Filipinos", etc.
4-0 out of 5 stars Meaningful
This was a very interesting movie. It starts out slow, with the Joad family losing their farm and heading west, and mostly follows the storyline of the original novel. However, unlike other movies (from books), it has its own spirit and excitement.

Street salesman Daffy Duck inherits a million dollars from the estate of J.B. Cubish, then sets up a ghost-busting service with pals Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig for the purposes of destroying Cubish's ghost. This is basically some new animation which frames several other older Warner Brothers shorts:
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Movie
In case anyone didnt know, this is an animated film made in the late 80s.Daffy Duck inherets money from his rich uncle and starts a ghost hunting company with Bugs and Porky.Although Daffy is the star, all the classic WB characters apear in this film. This is a pretty good movie, as it combines a bunch of classic Warner Bros cartoons together into one story with new animation. The new footage is nicely animated, although the difference between it and the old cartoons are quite noticable. However, the writers do a good job of making tons of old cartoons flow together as one story.5-0 out of 5 stars Finest Animated Film of All Time!!!!
This is not only the best Loony Toons film, but quite possibly the best animated film of all time!!! I remember when this movie first came out in 1988, I rented it CONSTANTLY until my parents finally bought it for me. I will never watch this film. I've always been a fan of Jack's movies. However, I will never watch this film simply because I know that I will never measure up to the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars With a Punch
I was always under the impression that this film was a comedy. I was very mistaken, but I enjoyed the film anyway. Aside from that false judgement, I was biased against the movie because of the era in which it was made. As a classic film fan, it is sometimes difficult not to resent some of the films that helped Hollywood progress away from the traditions of the classic era. However, any way you look at this movie, it is hard not to recognize the quality of the story and of the actors' performances.
