This strange experiment in filmed conversation finds three people--a physicist, a poet, a politician--yammering about the environment, science, art, government, and much else, all in an effort either to find or to dispute connections between disparate subjects. There is no story, as such--just lots of chatter (much of it not particularly profound) shot against a variety of picturesque backgrounds. If director Bernt Capra thought this would turn out to be another Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MINDWALK!I will never be the same again!
I saw this movie by accident, by surfing the stations, and now I will never be the same again!I have been living in a "Verbal Cocoon" and not in Reality, no not really, but I feel alot of people are and do. What is interesting is to read all 78 reviews, at this point of time and see how each person abstracts different views and feelings of the movie.I want to thank Amazon, that they have this feature of open reviews, weather they are Good, bad or indifferent. I feel that is what the movie reflexs, that our enviroment reflects how we see and observe or self and life.General Semantics refers to this as "Map to the Territory".The Map is what is going on inside our head, and the Territory is what is going on outside our head. Maps are not all that reliable, as they have to be changed to fit the territory, that which is going on outside your head. One purpose of Education, is to continue to update the map, which is in your head, to the ever changing Territory, which is outside your head.Example. When you go to a college or High School reunion, the people you remember, say 20 years ago are not the same as now, so you update that map to fit the new territory.Mindwalk, lets your mind open up and seefuture territories, and the ever changing ways of life. First off there are NO answers, only temporary solutions, for the World and universe is in a continue state of flux. If you look at nature,It is not black and white, it is in all degrees, the weather, the sky, the colors, not in absolutes. In nature there is no right or wrong, only process. It doesn't matter what a thing is, what does it DO!The life unexamed is not worth living, Know thy self! You never can define a word completely, for then you have to define the words in the defination and so on, therefore you have to have a point of reference to go by.What can be shown can't be SAID!I find all this comes out in the movie.I find it would be better on DVD, as then you could pause it after each important discourse.I find the book "Levels of knowing and Existence by Harry L. Weinberg also the book people in Quandaries, by Wendell Johnson, will benifit your Thinking process, in this ever Global-warming ever changing World.

5-0 out of 5 stars The life feels itself!
Based on the famous book "Turning point" of Fritoj Capra, this unusual movie is a true food for thinking around a great variety of important issues that surrounds us; an intrepid journey through the diverse spheres of the knowledge, from the atom's nature, the environmental subjects, the concept of evolution understood as untiring expression of creativity, science's ethic; sharp reflections around a vast number of aspects that concerns us in minor or major grade.
5-0 out of 5 stars The 3 P's : Physics, Politics and Poetry
Don't be fooled by how intelligent this movie is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clever Cartoon Version of the Classic
There have been dozens of movies and television shows that capitalize on the legend of Robin Hood. This version is clever and funny, and the music of country music legend Roger Miller makes this movie one for everyone to watch.
4-0 out of 5 stars Robin Hood (Disney Classic)
Its just one of those movies you like to have in your library and I love good old classic cartoon movies.Such a fun movie to watch and enjoy with the family.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite Disney Characters
This movie was my all-time favorite when I was little. And Robin Hood was definitely my all-time favorite Disney character. I remember how I'd sit at the kitchen table and draw countless pictures of Robin Hood, and how I'd sit in front of our family computer and write stories involving Robin Hood.

2-0 out of 5 stars The only soundtrack is GERMAN
This is a movie I like a lot, but I am giving this version only 2 stars as a warning to other customers.Look closely at the details of the movie, under Language it only mentions German.Other Region 2 movies I have purchased that are American movies have always included an English soundtrack, but not this one.You can only watch the movie with German voices dubbed over the regular voices. It doesn't even have English subtitles.I still gave it 2 stars because you don't have to speak German to enjoy the exciting Rollerblade race at the end of the movie.

This movie was fantastic. It features a young Oz from Buffy and really brings back childhood memories of the Midwest.I wish it would come out in DVD.I am surprised that Shane McDermott is a real estate agent for Bay Reef Century 21 in Galvaston Texas.I truly thought he would make it as an actor.Anyway the movie is great and is a good one to watch whether young or old. ... Editorial Review

The script for this movie was written by outrageous poet-author-alcoholic Charles Bukowski. But director Barbet Schroeder makes it into an oddly amusing story of a pugnacious drunk writer (Mickey Rourke) based on Bukowski himself. Rourke spends almost all of his time at the bar, struggling with sobriety (he's against it) and, occasionally, having fistfights with the bartender (Frank Stallone). He meets another souse, a formerly attractive woman (Faye Dunaway), and gets involved with her, which means they drink copious amounts of liquor and try to have sex. Not much happens beyond that, yet this film is strangely entertaining, for all of its bottom-of-the-barrel humanity. Maybe that's the secret: "Oh, the humanity...." Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Rourke could've been more subtle
I was in a Bukowski phase when I purchased and watched this movie, which I found disappointing. I liked the storyline, but thought Mickey Rourke overacted. Faye Dunaway had her role pegged, though.
5-0 out of 5 stars A staggering good time
Who but Mickey Rourke could adequately portray a character based on the supremely inimitable Charles Bukowski? In a film that is both dingy and bright, Rourke staggers from the screen a pickled genius and gives a stellar performance as the hard-drinking, alley-brawling, pickup line-snarling Henry.
4-0 out of 5 stars I should own this movie
But I don't because only rubes and collector freaks own movies. I never understood why people buy movies. How many times must you watch a movie to make up what it would cost to rent it? Something like 10-15 times, or less, depending on where you rent.

Even if you're not a fan of westerns, DO WATCH THIS MOVIE!!! It will become one of your favorites. Great story - fine, fine acting by all - super cinematogrophy and wonderful music. Larry McMurtry at his best! And the movie portrays the book nearly word for word (but is better because you'll feel like you're actually LIVING the story).

How many works of cinema are worth sitting through for 6 hours? Not many at all, but here you can't put it down. An unvarnished portrayal of the best and worst of humanity under harsh conditions. It makes you wonder where you would fit in, in this cinematic worldly epic. Most movie Westerns pale in comparison, especially the pop pseudo western bravado ones. Lonesome Dove finds the strength in humanity despite man's frail existence in nature. You don't have to like Westerns to love Lonesome Dove. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Disperse Ye Rebels!Disperse!!
This is a decent film that deserves to be re-issued on DVD.While not a big budget opus like infamous Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT, this is a much higher quality film overall. While a bit slow in the beginning with family relationships in Lexington, the film picks up when the British at last appear on the screen! There is a nice shot of the British columm deploying impressively into line to face Captain Parker's company. The only problem here is that the British force at this point consisited of six companies of Light Infantry who jogged into town at a fast clip before forming line opposite the militia. This would have been less impressive to show, plus i guess the available re-enactors could not all be shown in Light Infantry garb.So we get the usual mix of line companies, Grenadiers and Lights all in group together!Colorful, but not accurate!
4-0 out of 5 stars Lexington in April 1775
This film is set in 1775 Colonial Massachusetts. A peddler is stopped and searched, the British troops find a musket, powder, balls and confiscate them and the wagon (Gun Control!). The peddler stops at a local tavern to tell about this. The people have noticed an increase in British troop patrols. We then meet a family and see a portrayal of life in the 18th century as similar to today. There is a meeting among the men, they discuss the relative military strengths of the Colonial militia to the 5,000 British troops in Boston. [In fact the militia had a long military experience in colonial warfare, the British were less experienced.]

    5-0 out of 5 stars 5-star horror
This film, even by today's standard, is an awe inspiring epic horror film that changed the horror genre forever. This movie is one of the reasons why slasher films have become so popular.Because it gives you what you want, solid acting, a great plot, the ability to make people scared, a bad guy who you can't really figure out on what he is going to do next, and you don't know where the plot is going to end up.What could be better for a horror film?
5-0 out of 5 stars It still rocks definitely
Nightmare on Elm Street is the essential horror flick by Wes Craven for horror fans, with it ushered in a new dawn of horror movies, does dealing with our pysche and our nightmares.
5-0 out of 5 stars This flick began one of the 80's greatest villians
While Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees went around killing and slashing their way through horror, Freddy Krueger took a different approach. He's a phantom, ghost like apparatus that is all too real. The ultimate BoogyMan. When you fall asleep, he stalks you. If he kills you in your sleep, you never wake up, cause your dead. This original idea went over well and audiences ate it up. The sequels were hit and miss, but always there was the razor glove, Freddy's classic one liners, and kill scenes that would do Jason and Michael proud. This is the flick that started it all. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Epic Movie
"Spartacus" is one of the epic movies of the 1960s. This is a compelling and well made film that is a joy to watch. Kirk Douglas plays the role of Spartacus, the leader of a slave revolt in ancient Rome. Spartacus was enslaved when he was a teenager. When he grows up, he is trained as a gladiator. It was during this training that a slave revolt started and spread throughout the country. Spartacus displays exceptional leadership skills that led to the early success of the revolt.
1-0 out of 5 stars Romans wore '50's style hairdoos?
Historically inaccurate in many places. Kirk Douglass wears a ducktail. Tony Curtis's casting and performance are ridiculous. I'd watch "Gladiator" 10 times before I'd sit through another showing of this movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best of the Hollywood Roman epics
I've seen this film many times over the years and it never seems to become dated. It simply is a great and moving historical epic which while it isn't totally historically accurate, is much closer to genuine history than Hollywood usually manages to do.The director is the legendary Stanley Kubrick who was not the original preference.Kubrick later disowned the film because he felt he lacked creative control but there are still plenty of Kubrick touches there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!
For any of you teachers out there who plan to watch this in your classroom with your students:BEWARE!!First of all, I've heard of taking "liberties" with a book but this is ridiculous! Sex between Farmer Jones and the neighbor farmer's wife is not in the book, but sure is shown in the movie.I was shocked to see them rolling under the sheet as the headboard was "knocking against the wall". Utterly revolting and embarassing for me and my students.I expect better from Hallmark Entertainment, Family Home Entertainment, etc...
3-0 out of 5 stars not that bad
I have read a number of reviews that are upset that the ending was too optimistic. But there is a reason for that. Remember that Animal Farm was at least partially based on the Soviet Union, and when this movie was made (1999) the soviet union had fallen and it looked as if we had new hope for a democratic russia under the leadership of borris yeltsin. So to have a more optimistic ending (that George Orwell would have never in a million years written) is not that bad of an idea and it follows russian history. But after 7 years we see that things are not that optimistic. Borris Yeltsin had to leave office because his alcholism made him unfit to rule a country (disturbingly like Mr. Jones). Now a former member of the KGB is in charge of russia. Furthermore the entire world is now starting to enter a war that seems to be unwinnable with goals that are at best ambigious and may very well be unachievable. Hmmm all of this is starting to remind me another Orwell book, that could be made into a bad TNT adaptation.

    4-0 out of 5 stars i don't get it
I don't understand. How is it that so many people thought 1984 the movie was a masterpiece and yet they didn't give this great film the time of day. This movie is as good as 1984 (the movie) was bad. This is a perfect example of what communism really is, a good idea that could only work in a perfect world because hay, people (and animals apparently) are corrupt. Theirs a reason they say absolute power corrupts absolutely. People are selfish, and this is why communism must always fail, because people don't like to share and like being forced to share even less.

This is a great movie that depicts the spirit of the courageous priests, religious and lay people during a terrible time.It is definitely a must see!

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful story about strength, convictions, action, and the power of forgiveness
I'm Protestant ... and some may think this is only a movie for Catholics ... but this movie transcends 'religion'. It is a movie for anyone facing adverse times and the difficult choices one must make (the choice between protecting self, or risking all for someone who cannot give anything in return). Because of this, it has always been one of my favorites. 5-0 out of 5 stars "What is our duty when we come face-to-face with evil?"
Gregory Peck stars as Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, a brave Irish priest who works in the Vatican during the German occupation in World War Two. Over time O'Flaherty builds a network of hundreds of equally brave civilians to help him hide refugees and escaped Allied POWs from the Gestapo, under the command of the brutal Colonel Kappler (played by Christopher Plummer, in an unforgettable performance). Pope Pius XII (played by John Gielgud) soon knows of O'Flaherty's activities, but does nothing to help him, insisting on the church's neutrality and the dangers of working against the German occupation.

Whoopi Goldberg returns in a gratuitous, poorly written sequel that contrives a reason to get her character back into Maggie Smith's convent. The "socially conscious" plot finds Goldberg being asked to relate to a bunch of street kids and pull them together into a choir. Since a bad guy is needed, the script grabs that old chestnut about a rich guy (James Coburn) preparing to close down the convent's school, and runs with it. The film is slow and unconvincing from start to finish, although costars Mary Wickes and Kathy Najimy get some good laughs, and the music is pretty spirited. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love the first and second sister act since i was like thirteen
I love whoopi goldberg, and I love this movie. wholesome (besides the shooting, etc)AND funny..I also bought the first one because I love it so much too

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch it all the time!
There is a reason they show this one more than the first one on TV; it's better! I'm a bit biased because I enjoy basically anything that involves choir, music, music schools, or musci competitions but this one I never ever get tired or watching. Ever. I've seen it a billion times and I still watch it anytime it comes on Tv which is often. A definite buy even if you haven't seen the first one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good stoyline, GREAT music!
I love this movie. Both Sister Acts are good family films.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love is All
I have just finished watching Lorenzo's Oil for the first time and I have never seen acting like this. Susan Sarandon and Nicke Nolte should have won oscars for their performances. It is the most intense, inspiring movie you could ever hope to come across. The epitome of what love between father, mother and child can encompass. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intestinal Fortitude at its best!
Susan Surandon at her best! If you are a mother you will sob your guts out and this movie will stick with you for a lifetime. I do not recommend watching this when you have to get up the next day because you will be puffy and emotionally drained from the roller coaster ride you'll never regret viewing.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Lorenzo's gold!
With a heartbreaking real life story of the Odone family, director-producer George Miller created one of the most touching and emotional drama's ever to grace the big screen. With an all star cast, most notably Susan Surandon in her oscar nominated role, he paints a very real picture of grief, pain, struggle and passion as the Odone's cope with the tragic desease that has attacked their son Lorenzo.

    Editorial Review

Peter Bogdanovich directed this sensitive and moving story about a teenage boy, Rocky (Eric Stoltz), who lives with severe facial deformities and poor prognosis for survival beyond childhood. The film concentrates on that threshold-of-adulthood period familiar to past and present 16-year-olds, folding together common experiences of youth (love, hassles with mom, a desire to travel) with the special burdens endured by the hero. Stoltz, absolutely unrecognizable under lots and lots of prosthetic makeup, is quite good, as are Cher (as Rocky's mother) and Sam Elliott (Rocky's father figure). More than a tearjerker, the film is a genuine celebration of all that is most precious in life, even more to those who have nothing to take for granted.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How About A 2-Disc Set? With A Documentary About The Real Rocky Dennis
I am not going to write about the movie as what more can be said, its incredible, emotional, touching, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mask
Mask is the ultimate Biker movie about the close bond between a mother and her son. There are some awesome scenes that are not shown on VHS or on TV. Everytime I watch this I cry. Sam Elliott is the best Biker Boyfriend for his part. Eric Stoltz outdid himself in this movie and Cher was awesome and really brought this one to home. Cheers

This Director's Cut is bad, simply because it's not the original threatrical version- I likedthe old soundtrack and with this one the Springsteen songs seem way too overused and doesn't fit. It was fine the way it was. ... Read more

"Welcome to Nero's House of Women" greets a concubine to a slave girl, Lygia (Deborah Kerr). Later this self-same greeter reveals that she, too, like Lygia, is really a fellow Christian neophyte. And it's that mixture of tawdry Hollywood sex and a strong Christian message that makes this film an enjoyable "gentiles and gladiators" flick. Marcus Vinicius returns home after conquering the Britons to find that Rome is infected with a crazy new sect called Christians and that his beloved emperor Nero (Peter Ustinov, roly-poly and wicked) has become increasingly wacky. Marcus tries his centurion wiles on Lygia, and she's smitten, but she's also a Christian convert and begs Marcus not to force her to choose between him and her god. The Christians have a tough go of it, with martyrdom in the Coliseum as punishment for belonging to the new religion in town. Though three hours long, director Mervyn LeRoy's film always has something going on. It could help you enjoyably kill any rainy Sunday afternoon. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quo Vadis
The best movie I have ever seen! They do not make them like this anymore.I recommend it to the religious and non-religious, alike.Inspiring to the former; outstanding story for the latter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quo Vadis
Quo Vadis is a great classical film starring Robert Taylor, Deborah Kerr and Peter Ustinov. It's on the MGM/UA Turner Collection Library own by Time/Warner Studio and it sits without an official DVD release preserving the aspect ratio of its original theatrical exhibition, while a terrible poor quality imports are been sold on the internet for over $40 each.
5-0 out of 5 stars a tremendous film., and disturbing
this is, IMO, the best of all of the christian epics. including "ben hur" and "the ten commandments." it's magnificent in scope and in detail, and more human and passionate than it's competitors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This is the story of British General Charles "Chinese" Gordon's final battle. It is a little know episode to Americans but is a compelling story made even more so by this fine production.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Way Top
The movie was suggested by Lytton Strachey's fine essay on Gordon that appeared in his classic EMINENT VICTORIANS, and indeed the story was brewing for a long time before a combination of international interests unleashed KHARTOUM in the English speaking world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classic inspirational story, classic film, but do read the history too
This is a wonderful story and a riveting film, as the other reviewers have noted. This DVD version is crisp and clear, well done. The final narrator comment is on the mark -- A world in which there is no room for Gordons is doomed to turn to sand.

Such a shame, there is now a restored version available but they didn't bother to make it available to the rest of the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars An epic film: a battle against the dignity no matter what!
This timeless film shows how far the power of will of some human beings can reach under determined conditions and not precisely the most favorable ones .
4-0 out of 5 stars Utvandrarna
I bought this video for a research paper I was doing on Vilhelm Moberg, author of the four Emigrants novels. At any rate, I consider it a testament to the achievement of the Swedish actors that their performances managed to carry feeling, tension, and a spark of humanity although their voices had been taken away.I can't stand dubbed voices, so this is saying a great deal.At any rate, this is a fine movie, telling a fine story (read the books!), the only reason a star is missing is for the dubbing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Movie
Who could believe that Bogie could be in a this kind of movie? This movie has heart, laughter and a tear or two. Loved it. Worth the watching, and the buying. If you're a Bogart fan--you'll enjoy this one!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Were No Angel 1955
Humprey Bogart (1899-1957) plays one of his rare comedy roles in this jaunty excursion about three convicts: Josep (Bogart), Albert (Aldo Ray 1926-1991) and Jules (Peter Ustinov 1921-2004) -who are plotting their escape from Devils Island . Fate intervenes when they hide out with kindly but inept Felix Ducotel (Leo G . Carroll 1892-1972) and his family . Felix manages a store for his demanding arrogant cousin Andr? (Basil Rathbone 1892-1967) who decides to make the fatal mistake of stealing Alberts beloved pet , a poisonous snake ! For the Ducotels , it will be a christmas to remember -shared with trio of rogues who turn out to be three "Wise men" after ! . -Do your need more feedback ! , this is a great plot movie with much black humour and a happy ending . Hight Quality digital Transfer . Highly Recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Christmas movies ever!
Without a doubt, one of the best Christmas movies ever (and watchable any time of year).Humphrey Bogart shows his rarely seen comedic talents, Aldo Ray is a loveable letch, and Peter Ustinov steals much of the show with his dry wisecracks. And Adolph the snake, though never seen, is a hero.
