5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale As Old As Time Done Right
Beauty and the Beast may well be the very best animated film Disney ever produced. The characterizations of the leads are great as we have the sweet book loving Belle and the the flawed but totally redeemable "Beast".Gaston and Belle's father are also well drawn and memorable as are the comic relief bearing "enchanted" servants at the castle. There's something for everyone as the story is so romantic it leaves a lot of grown up ladies sighing, the bad guys are not too scary for the little ones and for the rest it is just a great tale.Plus Beauty and the Beast has some of the best songs ever written for a Disney production. No wonder the Broadway musical hasbeen such a hit as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tied for first for best Disney feature
I must've been about 10 when I first saw the Lion King and I was practically floored. Those catchy-for-their-own-good songs, the animation(well, me now talking) and that wildebeast stampede. The other one is Beauty and the Beast which for the life of me I can't remember seeing when I was young yet loved every minute of it. Revisiting it now I still love it and on one hand seeing it as a landmark in Disney's catalogue but also one in a series of films that marked a brief creative comeback.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the Beast
Yep, Disney animation. All my students see this movie at some point between leaving high school and when I meet them as university students. Sometimes, their Chinese university teachers show it to them in class. So, I thought I'd see why they love it so much. I'm still wondering. This is a two-page short story, not a film. But on the bright side, if you skip all the songs it's under an hour. I've never enjoyed a singing toon in my life. ... Read more

Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Monarchies tend to create dysfunctional families.
Disney's "The Lion King" is a pretty good movie about a young lion cub, named Simba, who is to become king of a place called Pride Rock located in the appropriately named Pride Lands. I always thought that the part where Simba's father, Mufasa, is killed by his brother, Scar, was kind of tough to watch. On the other hand, from a historical standpoint, scenarios like these were at some point a commoplace reality, all because of an intense desire for power. The most memorable part of the film is the scene where Scar turns on the hyenas, to whom he'd referred as the "real enemy," then tries to make up with them right afterwards by calling them his "friends." The best part was the subsequent reaction by the hyenas to his double crossing.
5-0 out of 5 stars il'd love to give this 20 out of 5 stars
this movie was incredable. i don't understand how people can dislike this film. this movie's deep and intense story made it great for children AND their parents, a feat rarely accomplished. but rather than stay depressing and traumatizing, this film goes from drama to side-splitting humor within 13 seconds. the best part is that this is all done with seemless perfection.
1-0 out of 5 stars dont mess with classics
I give the original 5 stars, but why is disney taking all its classics and adding new songs to it? i was so dissapointed when i rented this and there were new scenes in it. i dont want "new and improved" i want the original, the one i watched when i was younger. ... Read more

There are two types of Schoolhouse Rock fans. Type A: those who--inspired in the '70s and '80s by "Conjunction Junction" and "Interjections!"--went on to become grammar gurus, copyeditors, and computational linguists. And type B: those who--less inspired by grammar than by catchy refrains--can still sing lines that today sound less than P.C.: Read more

This movie takes all the clamation classics I remember as a kid and turns them upside down like only Tim Burton can.A twisted tale of the characters of Halloween town taking over Christmas after kidnapping Santa Claus.Though some of the characters are a little frightening for the young ones, the tone is mostly upbeat and funny. This is a charming, though very short movie. The dvd itself is loaded with great extras and worth the price two times over. ... Disney's 1967 animated feature seems even more entertaining now than it did upon first release, with a hall-of-fame vocal performance by Phil Harris as Baloo, the genial bear friend of feral child Mowgli. Based on fiction by Rudyard Kipling, the film goes its own way as Disney animation will, but the strong characters and smart casting (George Sanders as the villainous tiger, Shere Khan) make it one of the studio's stronger feature-length cartoons. Songs include "The Bare Necessities" and "Trust in Me." Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Stop Limiting Issues
I don't have this dvd and wouldn't buy it unless i was desperate.Disney is always pulling stuff like this: "Limited Issue, Limited Adition, Limited time Only", To Be Perfectly honest, it's becoming quite annoying. The only point i could think of for owning this dvd is because it's "dvd". However i believe it is a waste of money and a vhs copy is sufficent at this point. When they put it out again it should have the special features it deserves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, cute and exciting!
This animated Disney classic is about a orphan named Mowgli, who lives in the jungle and befriends all kinds of animals such as elephants, a bear named Baloo, and other naimals.
3-0 out of 5 stars A mix-up between good and bad
Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK seems rather irrelevant today when you look at the film. The movie was made in 1967, a time when the Golden Age of Animation was clearly over, especially for Disney. Watching this movie on laserdisc a couple of days ago I noticed how grainy the animation looked. And one shot looked like it was an exact copy of another shot. I understand whyDisney used did every single thing by hand--painstakingly doing it frame by frame. Every thing was carefully detailed. But by the 1960's it was too expensive to do. They started cutting corners. The animation grew worse in the 1970's, and it wasn't until new technology came out in the 80's that animation regained its glory.

Barbra Streisand made her directorial debut with this 1983 adaptation of the Isaac Bashevis Singer story about a young Eastern European woman (Streisand) who disguises herself as a male at the turn of the century in order to get an education. Except for an excessive musical score with too many songs and Streisand's tiresome tendency to play characters who suppress their beauty, the film is crisp and engaging, and the gender-bending love story complications are fun, if gimmicky. Streisand gives a smart, vulnerable performance and gets fresh work from costars Mandy Patinkin and Amy Irving.Read more

This cute movie by William Dear stars John Lithgow as a family man who befriends a Sasquatch (a.k.a. Bigfoot) and brings the friendly monster's oversized, hairy self into his Seattle home. Mayhem and comedy ensue, but things take a heavier turn when a hunter (David Suchet) gets on the creature's trail. Everything hinges on the relationship between Lithgow's character and Harry (the Sasquatch), and that relationship is really quite effective and touching. Don Ameche is a hoot as an old guy who has dreamed of meeting Bigfoot all his life and finally gets the glorious chance. Read more

Harry and the Hendersons is such a funny movie; I hope that it comes out on dvd soon. I've rented it several times on VHS in the past, and I never picked up on the negatives that "Mother Hen" mentioned.I guess that I was too busy laughing.I do have one thing to say about "Mother Hen", though. She does have a right to express her opinion about any movie, and if she feels the way that she does about Harry and the Hendersons, then so be it.There are no doubt some others out there that would appreciate her point of view. When my son was little, I may very well have felt the same way, who knows?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Film!
Rebecca is one of my very favorite movies. I have seen it many times and I never tire of it. The story is ageless and simple. An aristocratic widower marries a shy young girl and takes her to his castle-like home. There, she lives haunted by the shadow of Rebecca, his first wife. It is Rebecca did this, Rebecca did that, Rebecca all the time. A stunning classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hitchcock Movie for People Who Don't Like Hitchcock Films
Looking back in retrospect, I truly believe this film was the launching point of Hitchcock's career. He went on to have one of the most glorious careers in Hollywood history. Although he never won an Academy Award Oscar for the Best Director award; Hitchcock showed that he truly belonged in the top echelon of directors. Especially in his golden era: circa 1951 to 1959.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Version Of The Romantic Suspense Novel. A-List Cast+Excellent Script+Flawless Direction=The DEFINITIVE Version.
Alfred Hitchcock's first film made in America was an adaptation of the highly successful novel "Rebecca." In the role of the mysterious, but handsome, Maxim DeWinter, is Laurence Olivier (coming off the success of "Wuthering Heights" the year before; please see my review on it), giving a complex performance yet again. Joan Fontaine plays the nameless heroine, Judith Anderson plays the sinister Mrs. Danvers and George Sanders plays Rebecca's devious cousin. Very faithful to the novel, this film is. Oddball scientist Fred Z. Randall (Harland Williams) is nobody's idea of an astronaut. But he turns out to be NASA's only hope when the first manned mission to Mars comes up one man short. So it's up to Fred, who instantly rubs the ship's commander (William Sadler) and specialist (Jessica Lundy) the wrong way--but makes eerily good friends with the ship's chimp. A movie whose rude, gas-laced sense of humor will appeal to kids; adults may also get a few chuckles out of Canadian funnyman Williams, who does countless impressions and makes endless faces and funny noises. Rocket Man is another favorite of mine. Recently, UPN teased us by showing it on TV. Got my hopes up that the next time I was at Best Buy or any other DVD retailer that I would finally get my hands on this gem. But no. PLEASE IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, RELEASE THIS ON DVD! To anyone curious about viewing this movie, it's great fun and shouldn't be missed. Harland Williams is absolutely hilarious as a computer whiz who winds up getting sent on a mission to Mars. It's a Disney movie so prepare for a tidy ending as usual, but you'll be laughing the whole way through this journey, especially once they are on Mars. I don't want to give away any more and spoil it for you all, but if you think Williams is funny in Half Baked or even in his bit part as the serial killer in There's Something About Mary just to name a few, he's an absolute riot in this. For now, you'll have to rent/buy on VHS, but let's hope that this makes its way onto DVD soon!

Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). Walt Disney Pictures struck gold yet again (as they've done since 1937, when Walt Disney released the comnpany's first animated feature film "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs") with another delightful animated family film, a classic alongside "Beauty And The Beast," "The Lion King," "Toy Story" and many other Disney favorites. The story is timeless, like "Beauty And The Beast" and "The Lion King" so I won't summarize it. "Come on down, stop on by. Hop a Carpet And Fly To Another Arabian Night." Be prepared to discover "A Diamond In The Rough." The special features (beginning on Disc 1 and continued on Disc 2), along with the movie, are "A treasure-trove of riches" destined to please everyone. The voice cast includes Linda Larkin, Scott W., Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried and Robin Williams. I love this movie. Rated G.

From 1973 to 1985, a generation of kids watching Saturday morning television learned the function of conjunctions and the preamble to the U.S. Constitution with the help of an animated series called Schoolhouse Rock! The brainchild of executives at McCaffrey and McCall Advertising, the three-minute segments combined whimsical cartoons with catchy music (rock was only one of the styles) to help kids learn seemingly dry topics as easily as they could learn popular songs. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a good movie to learn about math skills
I enjoyed this movie so much 'cuz it help me thru my math skills and how I can use them to study and learn. This is the best school movie I ever enjoyed incl. the soundtrack. I was 5 or 6 when I grew up w/ this and I liked it a lot. I mean a WHOLE lot.
5-0 out of 5 stars This has 2 much excitement
you tired of learning multipliplacation by talking and no videos?Well, those days are over because of Schoolhouse Rock!-Multiplication Rock (1973).This is more fun then just having to talk about multiplication and not understanding it.It has songs, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Schoolhouse Rock Testimonial
When I was in third grade I never could get my times tables down pat- the sevens and twelves proved especially tricky. So my mom checked out this video from the library, and that changed immediately. I could rattle off my multiplication tables as fast as everybody else after watching this only a few times. Amazing! That same year I got put in advanced math. Coincidence? I think not! All the songs were just so catchy. I loved it when I saw the NIKE commercial playing "Three is the Magic Number", that's one of my favorites. Anyways, parents, this is a great buy for your kids and I doubt that you'll get tired of the tunes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Thee To DVD At Once!
DVD please? I saw this movie when it aired on A&E, and it captivated me as a child, and still does as an adult. The theme song is great, and I still find myself listening to it!!! I became a fan of Sandra Dee's after I saw her in "Gidget" and "Imitation Of Life" and I thought her performance was so real and heart-wrenching. Constance Ford, as her bitchy, controlling mother Helen, gives a strong portrayal of a bitter, frigid, unhappy woman who takes her anguish out on everyone around her, even her daughter. (She really gives Mommie Dearest a run for her money). The scene where she forces Molly to submit to a pelvic exam after she and lover-boy Johnny (the late Troy Donahue) have an accident on the beach (the boat capsizes) is horrible and makes the viewer grimace. The fact that the doctor was old and gross looking, and began to unbutton Molly's blouse without her consent, as she screamed, "Oh please, no, I want my father! I've been a good girl! I haven't done anything wrong!!" makes it uncomfortable, but it also makes you despise Ford's character, as I'm sure that was the intention. Richard Egan as Molly's father Ken, is so handsome and gentle at times (he was equally effective in Walt Disney's "Pollyanna" as Dr. Chilton) is a man who is trapped in a loveless marriage who finds and falls in love again with Dorothy McGuire, as Sylvia, his first love, who also happens to be the mother of Molly's boyfriend, Johnny!!! One of Egan's best lines is as he and Helen are having an explosive argument. Ken finishes off his end by saying, "Why must you insist on making sex itself a filthy word!" Arthur Kennedy, as Johnny's drunken father Bart was one of the actor's best later performances. The conflict between the two couples and the predicament that follows (Molly becomes pregnant by Johnny) was considered racy for its day, but considering how little is shown, you have to wonder what all the fuss was about!!! (Although the "King Kong" reference could bear some debate on that subject). The argument between Molly and her mother at the beginning of the movie, sums up the times and also, in a way, the relationships between mothers and daughters. Molly: "Daddy, do I have to?" Ken: "Do you have to what?" Molly: "Wear this middy blouse to shore like a twelve-year-old! And she says I have to wear this armor-padded bra to flattenme out and a girdle! This thing even hurts, and I couldn't squeeze into this girdle with dynamite!"

Once upon a time kids learned many of their school lessons in the three-minute episodes of Schoolhouse Rock. These educational cartoons came on during the commercial breaks of the less-than-edifying Saturday morning fare in the 1970s, and despite their healthy content, kids stayed glued to the screen to sing along to the somewhat psychedelic cartoons. Countless children hummed their way through social studies. The Preamble to the Constitution is much easier to remember when it's set to music. And everyone who saw the cartoon remembers how a bill becomes a law ("Oh, I'm just a bill, a lonely old bill, sitting here on Capitol Hill").These and eight other shorts make up Read more

This was a great show.I can't say anything better than the other reviewers, so I'll just say that this tape is a low-cost alternative to the DVDs that were released if you just want a little of the show for nostalgic purposes.

Well, i am here to say this is a fabulous tool! I watched all of these as a child and have shared them with my children. For those of you with the less than 5 star reviews let me say...This is not meant to be an exhaustive history lesson! It is a great way to introduce children to the history of our country. Something that, in my experience, schools made very boring. My children love history. If you find it not as accurate then be the one to take the next step and research it with your kids.I would agree it is geared toward younger kids but not that older kids would find it "stupid" at all! These reviews were pretty harsh. Also, the pilgrims DID plant food.Yes, the indians taught them everything and saved them but i wouldn't call that an inaccuracy. The movie just didn't get that deep into it.Come on now it is only a half hour! I highly recommend this to children of all ages.It opens the door to questions and conversations about our country that may not be raised otherwise. The music is very catchy and stays with you.It is plain and simple fun while being educational at the same time. Don't let the negative reviews sway you. This is a great video series and I highly recommend it!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME MOVIE
I agree with every one else ... RAD ROCKS and there are probably about 100,000 super suky dvd's out there ... come dvd converter studios ... what's up !!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars RAD
I bought the VHS RAD not too long ago and I had to pay a little more then I wanted but it was well worth it for my childhood favorite movie. I would watch that movie over and over again with my friends when I was a kid. They need to put it out on DVD, every month I look for it to be out on DVD and every month I am disappointed. I don't think they would have a problem selling it on DVD because everyone remebers the bike dancing scene. The movie is a classic!!! The VHS is great but I want a DVD, I am sure the VHS could be copy to CD but that would not do it justice it deserves to be re-released and digitaly enhanced and such by the studio. Look at all the other crap release on DVD. It is just is not fair to let a classic movie like RAD fade away.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME, WONDERFUL, GREAT STUNTS
I have been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD for years now.You can't even buy it on VHS unless someone is putting it up for auction on E-bay.The production company should hurry up and put this compelling movie on DVD and get it over with.Quite sure I am not the only one who wants to purchase. This is a wonderful movie for kids as well as adults of any age.My son and brother loves this movie, especially the bike stunts. This is truly a movie to have in your personal library.Hope the production company decides to put on DVD very soon. ... Pixar Studios have done it again. I have to say that these guys are totally good in computer animation, as well as in storytelling. Rarely do those qualities come together but here they are, delivering unto the audience once again something that one can only be drowned with wonder. Such is the marvel of Finding Nemo.

I missed this movie in the theaters so when it bacame available to rent my wife and I decided to give it a try. What a delight, I envy anyone seeing this film for the first time. From the wonderful cast, Caine, Duvall, and Osment are in their peak form; to the fine direction and the beautiful cinematography the film is a true treasure. After watching it we immediately bought several DVD's and gave them as gifts to family members and friends. A wonderful mix of coming of age, adventure, and just genuine good fun this is a must see film.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indian Love Call Classic
If ever a film deserved the label "classic romance," Rose Marie is the one.It starts out kinda slow, but gradually builds to a heartwrenching climax. Marie de Flor (Jeanette MacDonald) is an opera star who learns her brother, John Flower (James Stewart) has escaped from prison, allegedly killing a Canadian Royal Mounted Police in the process, and is in hiding.De Flor hires an Indian guide to take her tohim.Along the way into the Canadian wilderness, she meets up with Sgt. Bruce (Nelson Eddy),the Mounty tracking down her brother. She starts to give him a false name, "Rose . . ." but he recognizes her as a star, and assumes her full name is Rose Marie de Flor.Sgt. Bruce is immediately attracted to de Flor, but before long he guesses her relationship Flower, his prey. It's one of the all time classic dilemmatic situations as love develops between the two, who are each using the other to their own, opposite ends. De Flor depends on Bruceto survive the rugged trek through the wilderness, not knowing how much he knows; he expects her to lead him to her brother, while pretending to be along to protect her.I don't think it's ever been done more effectively, with "Indian Love Call" adding a haunting effect all the while. The cast also includes Reginald Owen, Alan Mowbray, Una O'Connor, and David Niven in an early, one scene, bit part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant and haunting...
There is poignancy at the heart of this movie. It's a love story and love comes at a high price.Rose Marie, like many Eddy-MacDonald films, is filled with love and loss, yearning and sacrifice. The final scene of Rose Marie demonstrates these characteristics perhaps better than any of their other movies. This is a fine film, but it is dated and should be viewed in the context of its time. There are laughs, romance, bittersweet moments and beautiful, heart-felt singing. The MacDonald-Eddy chemistry is magical. This is a movie that should not be overlooked or forgotten. It will stay with you after you've seen it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment at its best
Rose Marie has it all. Wonderful music, a great story. Good clean entertainment. As for acting, this is Jeanette's and Nelson's best. It is also the first movie Jimmy Stewart was in.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Film and Worth the Purchase
This is a great DVD that our son loves to watch. I don't think it is as good as the original but sequels rarely are. It's certainly worth the purchase and has a lot of extras on the disc. I have seen it less expensive in other stores however.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buzz & Woody Are Back
Yes it's true and people didn't think it could be done, Buzz & Woody back for a second adventure. In this film Woody finds out the real reason why he was made, he was a character on a TV show and Woody is one of the last remaining dolls made for that TV show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent pick for all
Toy Story 2 is just as good as (or even better than) Toy Story 1.Great animation, very funny and teaches valuable lessons without the sadness. Some of the animated movies have scenes that are hard to watch, for example the opening scene in Finding Nemo or the beginning of Tarzan. My son watches those scenes in horror (and so do I).Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 1 have such an original storyline that is so endearing, and it is such a well rounded movie that it is an excellent pick for all.I also like the fact that the toys don't sing and dance as in most animated movies, and yet the music is excellent.I particularly love the song (composer: Randy Newman) when Buzz realizes he is just a toy and can't fly and tries to fly out the window.Me and my son play along to that part! ...
